My dog throws up water often. Is she drinking too fast or sick?

It's possible that Iris may be drinking the water too quickly, and then vomiting it up. Slowing her down by offering smaller amounts of food and water more frequently rather than one large amount of food and water may help her keep it down and can help reduce the chances of possible bloat. If she continues to vomit, or otherwise acts ill, scheduling a vet appointment to look for underlying issues is best.

This is definitely something that can occur as a result of how fast food and water are ingested. The maze dog food bowls work great or the bowls that only dispense a small amount of food at a time. You can try and elevate the food bowl and see if this helps. If the episodes become more frequent then I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at Pepper and consider switching to a different food. I hope this helps! Thank you very much for your question. Because she is a deep chested dog, we do worry about bloating or other gastrointestinal stomach disease when there is an alteration in drinking or eating. You can fix the airbag problem by doing a few different things. First, you can elevate all of your water bowls so that she may not vomit as often. Second, you can give her a watering system that is constantly moving water that mimics a sink. These are available on many of the commercial retail online sites. Lastly, you can give her 1/4 or half of the amount of water that you normally give her when you are there. By this I mean you won’t give half of the normal water she drinks. But only give half if she is in a shaded, cool, or inside air-conditioned place. If she continues to vomit her water or food often, you can ask your veterinarian to put you on a daily anti-vomiting medication. Thanks a lot for your question. I hope I have helped.

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If Kubi is drinking too fast, he can choke a bit & bring up some phlegm. The ACV is a good idea, as the slight acidity might slow down the gulping. You can also add something to the water dish so it is just a bit more difficult for Kubi to take in too much too fast. An upturned secondary dish works well ( water dish should look like a bundt pan). If this continues, it would be a good idea to discuss things with your veterinarian. I do not think this is anything too serious, but Kubi may have some reflux going on that might respond well to medication. Take care.

I am very sorry to hear that Maggie is experiencing these problems, There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including pancreatistis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison, or even an gastrointestinal obstruction. It is also possible that Maggie is simply eating too much too fast. If the episodes continue over a 48 hour period, Maggie seems dull or depressed, in pain, ha sprifuse diarrhoea or vomiting, I would take her straight tot wh vet. Your vet will be able to perform a physical exam and run diagnostic tests such as bloodwork to determine the cause of Maggie's vomiting. In the meantime you can continue to monuitir her at home. Rest her stomach for a few hours. Then try smaller meals three times a day. Try a bland diet of boiled chicken breast and white rice for a few days and provide plenty of fresh water. If it only happens when he drinks that quickly and is eating and not regurgitating or vomiting any other time then I would think he is ok. If that is not the case then I would have him examined by your Vet and have X-rays done to check his esophagus. I would prevent him from drinking so much so quickly.
