My dog throws up food after eating fast. Is it serious?

Many dogs gulp or bolt their food. It’s a common issue. Continue to use the special feeder. You could also look for kibble that is disc shaped or has a hole in the center as this will slow Zeke down as well as force him to chew more. You could also switch from a bowl to a food ball dispenser. He will have to roll the ball around the get the kibble to come out and this will definitely slow things down. Canned food may help because he has to lick rather than grab. Every dog is different. Some dogs do great on canned food while others don’t. A dog may vomit if food is swallowed without being chewed adequately or if the meal is eaten quickly. You can try using a slow feed bowl to control Mini's eating. Dividing the meal into smaller, more frequent meals throughout the day may also decrease vomiting. If the vomiting persists, consider an exam with your veterinarian.

Poor piper. This sounds like she is likely drinking too much too fast. I would try to limit the amount you put in her bowl at any given time. So I would only put a small amount, let her drink that, then wait 20-30 mins then give her some more to see if this helps. If it does, then you know you have discovered the problem. If she is still vomiting up her water then I would have your vet check her out as there could be some other things going on with her like acid reflux or megaesophagus. The flatulence can be caused from gulping her food and water or from the type of food she is on and how her body digests it. You can try changing her food but make sure you mix the old food with the new food for 10 days to prevent an upset tummy. I hope this helps!

I am very sorry to hear that Maggie is experiencing these problems, There are a number of potential causes of such clinical signs, including pancreatistis, parasite infestation, infection, and ingestion of a toxin or poison, or even an gastrointestinal obstruction. It is also possible that Maggie is simply eating too much too fast. If the episodes continue over a 48 hour period, Maggie seems dull or depressed, in pain, ha sprifuse diarrhoea or vomiting, I would take her straight tot wh vet. Your vet will be able to perform a physical exam and run diagnostic tests such as bloodwork to determine the cause of Maggie's vomiting. In the meantime you can continue to monuitir her at home. Rest her stomach for a few hours. Then try smaller meals three times a day. Try a bland diet of boiled chicken breast and white rice for a few days and provide plenty of fresh water. If it only happens when he drinks that quickly and is eating and not regurgitating or vomiting any other time then I would think he is ok. If that is not the case then I would have him examined by your Vet and have X-rays done to check his esophagus. I would prevent him from drinking so much so quickly. It could be that Archi eats his food too quickly, leading to him vomiting. You can try feeding him out of a slow feeder bowl, which you can find online or at a pet store. I'd also recommend a check up with his vet to make sure everything is ok health wise. Best of luck.

Hi there! I'm sorry to hear about Pola's troubles. I have seem dogs vomit because of their stomach being empty for too long in between meals. Vomiting after eating however could more likely be a sign of something else. Maybe Pola's food no longer agrees with her or she's getting a sensitive stomach. Also, can you think of anything Pola may have gotten into? Dogs can get things stuck in the stomach that can cause partial blockages or even chronic irritation. I would make sure you are giving Pola her total amount of food split into 2-3 meals every 8-12 hours. Also important is if Pola has started eating faster because shes being given less food to eat. Eating too fast would make her throw up too. She may need to eat from a treat dispensing ball or something like a pickle pocket to make sure she's eating slowly. If this doesn't go away in another 5 days or so I'd have her evaluated by her veterinarian. They can help you streamline her diet and also make sure she doesn't have anything else going on.
