Why is my dog throwing up for days, including white chunks and grass?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 55 lbs

The previous 2 days my 5yr old lab/Aussie shepherd mix has thrown up once both days. It was just dig food. Today she threw up several times and at one point it was white chunks. She also the up a lot of grass. Do I need to take her in or is there something i can give her? What could be making her sick like this?

I would take Lady into a vet. When a dog has been vomiting for more than 24 hours, then it is time to seek medical attention. This vomiting could be caused by a GI illness, eating something rotten, pancreatitis, or a foreign body. Please take her into a vet now.

While it is not normal, sometimes an episode of vomiting can be episodic and not necessarily something that will actually represent an issue going forward. If this does not occur again then it would be ok to not take her to a veterinarian. However, if the vomiting continues, she should be evaluated by a veterinarian as vomiting can be caused by a disease such as pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, among other possibilities. These signs could be compatible with an inflammation infection of the gastrointestinal system and surrounding organs (like pancreas and liver). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is immediately essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately. Antibiotics and possibly further investigations (like abdominal imaging as ultrasound or radiographs) may be needed.

Lethargy (weakness and not moving/being lazy) for 3 days, and vomiting up something from a few days ago (if you don't have grass, when did she last access grass?) is very concerning for either an obstruction or blockage of the gut, or a severe gastritis. Also, since Chihuahuas are so small, they get dehydrated very quickly and can get very very sick just from dehydration. I would recommend going to your vet right away. They will likely do bloodwork and x-rays and will let you know if Lucy needs to stay in hospital for IV fluids, and possible surgery. Best of luck with Lucy, I hope she feels better soon!

What to do if my 13-year-old dog has diarrhea and vomiting for 4 days?

4 days is very long for a dog to have vomiting and diarrhea. I recommend that Alexa see a vet as soon as possible. Potential causes for her illness include dietary intolerance, dietary indiscretion, food allergy, intestinal parasites, GI blockage, gastroenteritis, bacterial or viral infection, IBD, pancreatitis, among others. Your vet may recommend abdominal x-rays, bloodwork, or an intestinal parasite screen to help diagnose her ailment and create an appropriate treatment plan.

My dog is throwing up and lethargic. When should I see a vet?

No, the questions aren’t linked. I will usually be okay with an upset tummy for 24 hours, so if it’s been longer than that, Quintana should probably see the vet. The green means that her stomach is empty and she is starting to pull fluid from the upper small intestine (where bile enters). The vet may recommend a Parvo test, bloodwork, or x-rays to see what is causing her sickness, and can make an appropriate treatment plan when they have a better idea of the cause of her vomiting.

Why is my dog throwing up for 2 days but otherwise acting normal?

Just like humans, pets can vomit for many reasons including parvo, eating something she shouldn't have, parasites, toxins or an intestinal blockage (which can be fatal). because some of these reasons can be very serious and because it has been going on tor 2 days, I recommend to have Kenzie examined first thing tomorrow morning. She needs treatment to fix what ever is causing the vomiting and at this point, she may have some dehydration or electrolyte imbalance issues. Any pet vomiting beyond 48 hours needs to be examined. I hope she feels better quickly and please feel free to post any additional questions.

My dog has been throwing up for over 24 hours. What should I do?

Poor Cally! The vomiting could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn't have, bacterial over growth, parasites (worms and giardia) or even something more severe like organ dysfunction or intestinal blockage. Pets who vomit beyond 24 hours need to be examined and I recommend to have Cally examined by the veterinarian today. Try to remember to take in a stool sample. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial. Other diagnostics may be recommended as well. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. Why is my dog vomiting often and acting lethargic? When to see a vet?

Possible causes of vomiting include GI illness, eating something rotten, a foreign body, or a pancreatitis. Without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain what is causing his vomiting, but I can say that when a dog is vomiting for longer than 24 hours, it's time to see a vet. I would take Scooby into a vet now to diagnose what is causing his vomiting so he can be treated. I hope this helps!
