My dog threw up undigested food after car sickness. What does it mean?

If it was just one time, I wouldn't be too concerned about the vomit. If something isn't sitting well in their stomach you may notice some undigested food. If Roxy continues to vomit or becomes lethargic then I recommend taking her to a veterinarian to have her evaluated. My suspicion is this is probably more just from car sickness. If Nittany is acting otherwise normal then I would suggest feeding her a small bland meal (boiled chicken and sweet potato) later today and then resuming her normal diet tomorrow. Dogs with parvo usually have both vomiting and severe diarrhea so I think it's unlikely this is what is going on with Nittany. However, if her vomiting persists or diarrhea, lethargy or inappetance develops then you should schedule a visit with a veterinarian.

Based on the history and description, I would be concerned about trauma to the esophagus causing a stricture. You need to follow up with your veterinarian and discuss x-rays or abdominal ultrasound and endoscopy. If your veterinarian does not offer ultrasound or endoscopy ask about referral to a veterinary specialist.

It's probably best to wait until dinner just in case his tummy is still a little upset. Monitor him closely for any continuing signs of illness. if this is just car sickness, he should be fine by dinner time. Try to keep him rested until then. If the vomiting was solely due to motion sickness, I would have expected it to have stopped at this point, once she was out of the car. Vomiting can have a number of causes in dogs, both related to the GI tract (parasites, intestinal blockage, foreign objects in the stomach, bacterial or viral infections) as well as non GI-related (kidney or liver issues, pancreatitis, etc). The fact that she is now dry-heaving is especially concerning, as non-productive vomiting (i.e. retching repeatedly without bringing anything up) is a common sign of the very serious GI issue known as "bloat" or "GDV". In this condition, the stomach fills with air and/or food, and then flips around, essentially blocking the entry/exit points. I would take Hannah in for veterinary care immediately, first to rule out GDV and then to get definitive diagnosis and treatment for the vomiting.

However, if he continues to vomit, becomes lethargic, stops eating or develops diarrhea, then he will need to see his veterinarian. If Toby has only thrown up 1 maybe 2 times but is still eating,drinking and playing normally I would continue to monitor his behavior . If at anytime he starts vomiting more, acting lethargic, having diarrhea or not eating I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as possible. It is possible that Toby ate something he should not or even had a mild upset stomach that caused him to get sick. IF he is acting normally but continues to occasionally vomit I would recommend switching his dog food because sometimes vomiting can be secondary to a food allergy. I hope that helps
