The only behaviors that will be affected by castration are those that are under the influence of male hormones. So for example, a dog’s temperament, training, and personality, are related to genetics and upbringing, not hormones. Neutering does not “calm” an excitable dog, and unless a castrated male dog is overfed or underexercised, there is no reason for it gain weight or become inactive. The undesired traits which are related to male hormones such as sexual behaviours, aggression, and urine marking will change over the course of a few days to a few months. Hello. Barring any complications, recovery is pretty quick, usually a day or so. But we do recommend taking things easy for 10-14 days to give all the tissues a chance to heal. There is also a small chance that a male dog may have some residual sperm in his reproductive tract that could potentially get a female dog pregnant. The testosterone levels drop after the neuter and should be decreasing now. Hopefully this behavior will ease up as the remaining testosterone gets out of his system. If things don't resolve or his signs worsen, I would advise that your veterinarian take a look at both of them to assess any problems. I hope this gets better soon.

It can take many weeks to even months for the hormones that are created by the ovaries to stop circulating within the blood stream. But then, some boy dogs are just obnoxious sniffers. Neutering the male may help with this behavior.

Yes, he’s at that teenage stage. The male hormones will take up to six weeks to go away so there may still be some effects from them on his behavior. He’s at a good age to start obedience training. I enjoy group lessons so he learns to obey you with other people and dogs around. Be patient he’s still young. I think it takes until dogs are one to two years old before they settle down and become well behaved family members. Once all the male hormones have left the younger one's body, this should stop. It sometimes takes a few weeks (3+) for all the male hormones to go. Now that the younger one has no more testicles, there will not be any significant testosterone production anymore. Your older fellow is a sweetie and obviously not too worried and might see it just as play. As long as they do not have serious fights, I would not worry about it.

Initially probably you won't see much changes, at least for the first few months. Slowly attitude may change towards less markings and other male-sexually related activities (aggression, escaping looking for females and so on). Most of the times these changes influence positively their life in my opinion.
