Is my 8-month-old dog's bad behavior after neutering adolescence?

You’ve reached the teenage stage. Plenty of exercise is needed to get him tired which will lessen this adolescent behavior. Neutering will help also but mostly it will improve as he gets to be an adult. I do recommend a group obedience class. That will help him learn to focus on you with other people and dogs around and will challenge his mind also. Now is the best time to neuter them both. Neutered males are more docile and make better pets. When they reach sexual maturity at around 6 months and their hormones go into full swing so to speak, they may act aggressive toward other males and want to become dominant in the household. If you wait too long, neutering will not help. I suggest neutering all dog sin the house as soon as possible, then the hormones will die down in a few weeks. At this time, implement a training program with a trainer or by doing some research. The behavior will most likely get better, but that is not definite. This is totally normal behavior for a 7 month old puppy. He is trying to find his place in the pack. This is the time they challenge higher ranking pack members which includes you. You just have to work through this and be consequent in your actions. He will eventually stop the challenging behavior.

Usually after neutering the hormones decrease gradually with most gone in a few weeks, up to six weeks. Once Rocky is neutered you may want to have a trial foster to make sure the dogs will adjust to each other and not fight. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There is not rush to neuter male dogs. As long as he doesn't have behavioral problems and isn't marking it is fine to wait. Neutering does helps with an enlarged prostate, prostatitis and prostatic abscesses that can occur with older age. Just as an aside, most dogs do not reach social or bahavioral maturity until 2-3 years of age, so behaviors Nabi have now may change. I hope this helps!

If no improvement is seen 1-2 months after neutering him, I would recommend that you consider dog training for him which would for sure help in this case. Have a great day!

It sounds like Kiba is entering the stage where is hormones are telling him to get all the lady dogs pregnant, and to keep away other male dogs. I would recommend neutering Kiba to keep him out of trouble. Fights with other male (and even female) dogs can turn ugly very quick. Neutering at this early age should prevent long-term aggression, but it can take 6-8 weeks for the hormones to completely leave his system. Unless you are planning to breed Kiba, there is no medical benefit to leaving his testicles in a this point. His chill personality should be locked in, and testosterone is no longer needed as he should be done growing at this point.
