My Chihuahua has tapeworms. How long can he safely wait for the vet?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Worms do cause diarrhea and a very high worm burden (amount) can cause severe disease. However, if the puppy is eating, playing and drinking, and is acting normally, then you can wait until tomorrow. I would just inform the new owners about the worms, and have them bring Dan to the vet right away. The vet will get proper deworming performed, as well as vaccines. Best of luck with them!

The worms can be tapeworms and they often look like small pieces of rice. They get these from eating a flea. It can cause itching and irritation around there anus. However an infectedcor impacted anal gland can also cause the same symptoms and can rupture if untreated. I would take him to the vet to have the worms confirmed and get medicine for that. They can also chechnyhebgkabds to make sure antibiotics aren't needed to help. This does not have to be as an emergency thiugh, if he is eating and drinking well you can schedule an appointment for tomorrow

Hello. There are wormers available over the counter that will take care of tapeworms. Make sure the product contains the ingredient praziquantel, or you can pick up SafeGuard canine wormer at Petco. If you want to be sure of what you might be seeing befors giving Poppy any wormer, you can always take a fecal sample to your vet for analysis. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Chica has tapeworm. Tapeworm are usually from fleas (current or previous infestation). Most general puppy dewormers do not kill tapeworm. Chica should get a dwormer that gets tapeworm, either drontal or cestex or droncit. Your boxer can not get tapeworm from those segments, she would need to have ingested a flea as well. I hope this helps and I wish Chica the very best!

Cassie should be treated with a deworming medication such as Panacar (fenbendazole) which treats roundworms, hookworms and tapeworms. This treatment is generally once daily for 3 days. Then, this same treatment should be repeated again in 3 weeks, and again in 3 months. This is done to ensure that all lifestages of the worms are treated by the medication. If there are any other pets in the household too, they need to be treated/dewormed too! I hope this is helpful!
