My Rottweiler has a scab on his tail nub. Is Neosporin enough?

These look like little crusts associated with a skin infection. Your dog was probably chewing his tail excessively and caused the skin infection. If it is localized to only the tail he probably will not need antibiotics. You can try to use a topical antibiotic ointment on the area to help clear it up. If you cannot get it to clear up or if it begins to spread I would recommend taking Louie in to the vet to be checked out.

I am sorry to hear about Roxy. Based on your photos I definitely think she needs to see a veterinarian. She likely has a bacterial or yeast infection of the skin (or both) which could be secondary to allergies or mites. She needs a vet exam to check for these issues and prescribe appropriate treatment. If your roommate's dog is biting in aggression, this also needs to be addressed with a vet as this is a large dog and could do a great deal of damage if the biting continues/worsens.

It depends on what it is exactly. if the sore appears to be red, inflamed, draining, or has discharge coming from it, I'd recommend holding off on the neosporin and seeing your veterinarian to have it fully evaluated. Lilly may need a prescription medication from her vet in order for it to properly heal.

Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. About 99/100 times if a dog comes to the vet clinic with something like this they also have fleas. If you don't have him on a good flea prevention then he is likely scratching this location due to fleas. I do think I see some "flea dirt" in the photo. I strongly recommend you get him to the vet for an exam. If he has fleas you need to get a good prescription flea prevention. Also, this type of lesion almost always needs oral antibiotics and some type of oral antiinflammatory to stop the itch cycle for it to heal. As long as he keeps scratching it, it will not heal no matter what you apply topically. If you choose to try and treat it yourself at home, you can use this hot spot spray gel 3- 4 times per day. It is really hard to tell from a photo alone what is going on in the skin, however it is evident that something is causing inflammation of the skin. Dermatitis can be caused by many things including infection, irtitants, parasites, allergies or metabolic conditions. With you being away stress may have had a role in this. Ask your friend if they have given any new foods or used new shampoo? I would advise you to get to a vet for a skin exam in the next day or 2 as it is best to nip this sort of thing in the bud before it spreads.

Poor Rocko! This looks like it could have a bacterial component and likely an allergy component to it even though he isn't itchy. I would have your vet take a look at him and see if he could benefit from a few weeks, possibly even a month, of oral antibiotics. Your vet can also prescribe him a stronger allergy medicine like apoquel or a short course of steroids to see if this will help. I would continue with the medicated bathe twice a week. I would also add in some omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E to help heal his coat from the inside out. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!
