My dog's tail has scabs and pus. Can I treat this infection at home?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 80 lbs

Hello. My dog seems to have some kind of infection on his tail. It’s really two spots within a close distance that are scabbing but also have this yellow colored thing which I think is pus possibly. My boyfriend squeezed it just a little and said a little blood came out. Trying to gage if this is a need to see Vet ASAP or if we can try something at home first to heal it.

Looks like an infection but I don't know what the underlying cause is. If he doesn't seem too bothered you can try applying this wound spray (you should be able to get it a your local Petco). If after 5-7 days of treatment, if no improvement or it worsens, he should see a vet.
