My dog is being bitten, has scabs, and is licking herself raw.

There is no way to diagnose allergies from a photo, I am afraid. I suggest you take Roxy to your vet for an exam and show your vet where Roxy's ski looks strange or where she itches. Your vet will then do a thorough skin exam, possibly with a skin scrape r biopsy to find out whether there is an allergy or possibly a bacterial, fungal or mite infection.

It's really difficult to know what needs to be done without evaluating Roxie. Itchy skin is often due to the following things: 1) Allergies - this can happen suddenly and is usually due to an environmental (i.e pollen) cause. Your vet can help check for these. I'm not sure why the Zantel was prescribed, but it would not be effective for these parasites. 3) Over-bathing, or using the wrong product for bathing - Bathing too often can cause the skin to get dry and irritated. Dogs should normally be bathed no more than once a month with a shampoo that is labeled for dogs. If you bathe more than that, or use a shampoo or soap that is meant for people, then you could be damaging the normal protective barrier of the skin. One thing you can do for itchy skin, is give a bath with cool water using an oatmeal or aloe shampoo. You can get these shampoos at the pet store. It appears that Roxie either has a cut on her paw pad or has licked her paw raw. It is possible she is licking her paw secondary to trauma, allergies or even infection. I would recommend taking her to a vet to determine the cause and appropriate treatment. If the paw if infected she might need antibiotics. I would recommend placing her in a cone around her neck to help prevent the licking. You can try an over the counter anti histamine to help with the itchy but that will not resolve an infection.

Poor Rocko! This looks like it could have a bacterial component and likely an allergy component to it even though he isn't itchy. I would have your vet take a look at him and see if he could benefit from a few weeks, possibly even a month, of oral antibiotics. Your vet can also prescribe him a stronger allergy medicine like apoquel or a short course of steroids to see if this will help. I would continue with the medicated bathe twice a week. I would also add in some omega 3 fatty acids and vitamin E to help heal his coat from the inside out. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!

Possible causes for that severe of an itch are: scabies mite (exposure to foxes or other dogs that are itchy?), allergies or a skin infection. Even a few fleas can cause a severe flea allergy response. When a dog has a flea allergy it just takes one flea because they are allergic to the saliva of the flea. Since Toby is chewing herself raw she needs to see a Veterinarian. There are no at home drugs that will be sufficient to reliever her discomfort. After your Vet examines Toby they may want to do a skin scrape to check for scabies. Scabies is treated with ivermectin injections of topical Revolution. If she has a skin infection she could receive oral antibiotics and something to relieve her scratching, either prednisone or aopquel. She needs to be on year round flea prevention if a flea allergy is possible. I would recommend either Nexgard, Simparica, Bravecto or the Seresto collar. This usually occurs secondary to allergies as they lick and scratch leaving the skin more susceptible to yeast and bacteria. I would recommend a vet visit to get her on appropriate antibiotics and possible a medication for allergies. There are many treatment options to try for an itchy dog.

It looks like a hot spot (moist dermatitis). Your veterinarian should examine Roxy to confirm the diagnosis. Place an e-collar (cone) on her to prevent pawing or rubbing. The e-collar may keep your other dog away from it as well. Ideally, the area should be clipped and scrubbed by your vet. Topical and/or systemic antibiotic treatment may be indicated.
