My dog's eye is swollen. Will Augmentin help or are drops better?

Hello. I am sorry that Jango isn't feeling well. He defenitely looks like he has an infected eye. Co-Amoxiclav is a good first line antibiotic, and may resolve his issues. The dose is 12.5mg/kg PO q12, and 7 days is an appropriate time frame. So yes, this medication is appropriate and should help clear it up unless it is a more complicated infection. I would try this first and see if it resolves. The only thing you may want to talk to your vet about, if the infection re-occurs, is getting a 3 week course of a cephalexin. Start with what you have an see how it responds, but if it is getting worse instead of better bring Jango back to your vet right away. Good luck with him!

I would worry that the swelling might be due to an eyelid infection or allergic reaction, and Goodwinol would not treat these problems. It's also possible that the Goodwinol would cause irritation so close to the eye. I'd recommend seeing a veterinarian since oral medications like antibiotics might be necessary. If Zeppelin is squinting or other areas of his face seem swollen I'd recommend seeing your vet.

Poor girl. It would help if you posted a picture here, but it does sound like Ayumi has possible conjunctivitis. If the discharge is yellow or green, then there is an infection that should be checked by your vet. The vet needs to do an eye stain to check for any ulcers/scratches on the eye surface, and then prescribe eye ointment/drops to allow this to heal. It is possible that blowing in her face could have inadvertently caused dust or debris to go into her eye and cause irritation or there could be another cause altogether. Eye problems in dogs can't be treated with anything over the counter unfortunately, so its best to get her seen by your vet soon for treatment. This looks like a swelling of Poppy's conjunctiva as opposed to the eye itself. It could be due to an allergic reaction or infection such as conjunctivitis. She will need eye drops and antinflammatories to settle this down so go to your vet as soon as you can. In the mean time pressing a cooled tea bag on the outside of the eye can provide some relief.

I am so sorry to hear that Kaimana is experiencing these problems with her eye. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Kaimana to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is injured, inflamed or infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Her to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. An rlceration is a tear in the top layer of the eye and is a serious condition. Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly I would have her examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue immediately. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Your vet will use a special tear stain drop to visualise the eye and the top layer to make are there are no ulcerations, and check for other conditions before prescribing medications. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! There are many reasons Chloe's eye may look like that: an infection, a scratch on her eye, glaucoma or inflammation. It won't hurt to give her the Keflex but we treat eye conditions with ointments or drops. I always recommend immediate veterinary care when there are issues with the eyes. Good luck!
