My dog has a swollen eye with yellow pus. Should I give her Keflex?

Hello and welcome to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. I would recommend not giving the Keflex as often bacteria is not the problem with ear infections. Likely the ear will become painful so I would recommend having Apollo into your vet as soon as they are open. In the mean-time, I would recommend getting an alcohol based ear cleaner (my favourite is Epi-Otic) and clean the ears really well. After you clean the ear, dry it out well. This will clear up most ear infections without requiring any medications at all. Sometimes to decrease the swelling you will need other medications. Often ear infections are yeast infections, therefore the antibiotics won't help at all, and may disrupt normal healthy flora. Best of luck with Apollo.

Hello. Willow has an eye infection. Eye infections, if not treated quickly, can cause permanent damage to the eye, possibly even blindness. In addition, she is in pain. Please call your veterinarian as soon as possible, or even have her seen tonight on emergency. The sooner she is treated, the sooner you can clear this up. Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You will need to see your veterinarian for an ocular exam to determine if there is a foreign body in the eye. The antibiotic that would be efficacious towards Klebsiella would be a ophthalmic solution that contains tobramycin or gentamicin. Best of luck!

This looks very painful and infected. It’s hard to tell if the eyeball itself is damaged. She needs immediate treatment so the infection can be treated and the eye itself examined. It appears that she has an eye infection, and yes you should take her into the vet. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), allergies, among many other conditions.
