Can I switch from K9 Advantix II to Seresto? Any side effects?

The Seresto collar works by using a slow, continuous release of medication onto the skin and fur - so as soon as you remove it, the level of medication on Prada's skin will immediately start to drop. The active ingredient (imidicloprid) also has a very high margin of safety in dogs, so it should be fine to go ahead and apply Advantage the same day that you remove the collar.

It is ok to use Seresto along with other topical products, just not oral ones. In some pets there can be a little skin irritation, so watch out for that and notify your vet if this happens. Otherwise, you should be fine to go ahead with Seresto to see if this does the trick. I would also recommend using a flea fogger to treat your home, which can be found at your local Home Depot or Lowe's. If you still don't have good results with the Seresto collar, then I would wait at least 2 weeks and consider better products such as Simparica or Nexgard. It would not be recommended to do this, as a Seresto collar and Advantage II have the same active ingredients - so you would essentially be giving your dog a double dose of medication, which may not be safe. It shouldn't be necessary to use two different flea control medications as long as you are using an appropriate size/dose for your dog's weight. If you are already using one of these products and are finding that it is not effective, I would recommend switching to a different flea medication entirely, such as Nexgard or Bravecto - these are both much more effective in my experience.

To be safe, you should wait 2-3 weeks before switching to a Seresto collar. IN the meantime, treat the environment for fleas. Vacuum everywhere then dispose of the vacuum bag or empty the canister outdoors immediately after. Wash all bedding in the hottest water allowable by fabric. Use an area treatment, such as Indorex or Knockout ES, to kill fleas in the home. A majority of the flea population actually lives off the pet, hopping on to feed then hopping off. Discuss a product to kill adult fleas with your veterinarian. CapStar would be safe to use even if you applied a topical preventive. However, it will only kill adult fleas that are on Tybalt.

The manufacturers of flea and tick products do not recommend using more than one product at the time, as there could be an increased risk of side effects. Seresto is a very good product, it will be worth to give it a go but you should wait about 4 weeks after Luna had NexGard tablet.

I would advise against this. Advocate is fairly complete except tick prevention. If you have concerns about ticks, I recommend to switch to something like Simparica and Intercepor or you can use a collar specifically for ticks called a Preventic collar. It is designed to be worn by dogs who have flea products on. I hope this is helpful and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Seresto collars are water-resitant, so they remain effective following a bath (with or without shampoo treatment), or even after your dog goes for a swim. Therefore, there is no need to remove the collar for bathing. However, using a gentle, soap-free pet shampoo is recommend. Under normal conditions, the collar's effectiveness should last for 8 months. In order to make sure it lasts this long, you shouldn't bathe your dog more than once per month.
