My dog swallowed something. He's subdued and not using his tongue. Can a vet help?

Likely he is upset by the ordeal and having had you pull the object from his mouth-I would give him a few hours and try rot see if he calms down enough to drink water. It is possible that in the removal process he received a scratch on the inside of his mouth, etc as well that has made it a bit uncomfortable for him. If he continues last morning not able to drink water comfortably-I would seek a veterinary visit so that they can do an oral exam-likely it will not come to this. I hope this helps!

You are correct that his behavior can signify a problem with his mouth, such as severe dental disease or a broken tooth. There could even be something stuck in his mouth. Another cause is nausea. Since Biscuit has eaten and gone to the bathroom he should be fine until the morning. Try to get get him to drink more fluids so he doesn't get dehydrated and to soothe his throat. I would put a little chicken broth or bullion in some water to encourage him to drink. You also can add some water to his food. It sounds like he has a sore throat or is coming down with a cold. If he chewed up a toy or bone he may have a throat injury but if it was severe he wouldn't eat. Your veterinarian will examine his mouth and will get him the appropriate medication. Please keep an eye on him tonight and if he should get a lot worse then I would take him in to be checked out. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Even though he is no longer bleeding, this is likely causing him a great deal of discomfort. There is most likely a wound in the mouth which is why he is drooling. I highly recommend having him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. If you are concerned about something stuck in Doggo's throat, I would have him examined by your veterinarian to appropriately identify the cause of the symptoms. If you are unable to get to your vet right away, I would maybe offer soft food on the off chance this is irritation in the throat from something Doggo swallowed. Soft food would be much easier than hard food to swallow. An examination will help identify any obvious object lodged in the mouth or throat. It is possible he injured his tongue or gums or even deeper into his larynx. I would highly recommend a trip to the veterinarian with a sedated oral exam as it sounds like there is either and injury or remaining portion of the stick. Very often I find them on the roofs of their mouth. Good luck!

She could be nauseous but typically dogs have a decreased appetite with that. I would also be concerned about a bad/infected tooth. I recommend taking her to a vet for a good oral exam.
