My dog swallowed a small ball. Will she pass it or is she in danger?

Hello, thank you for your question about Shadow. It is difficult to know for sure whether this will lead to a problem or not. Since Shadow is a good sized dog if the ball was small it is possible that it will pass through her GI tract without causing any problems. However, there is always the chance that foreign material can cause an obstruction in the GI tract; this would require surgery to remove the ball. I would recommend continuing to monitor Shadow for development of any signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, inappetance, or lethargy. If at any point she shows these symptoms I would recommend contacting your veterinarian. In the meantime to try and help the ball pass through her GI tract I would recommend offering her canned food to help the material pass. Alternatively you could offer her bread or canned pumpkin with her meals. Hope this helps, good luck!

You can continue to watch her for any evidence of an obstruction which may be observed with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, inappetence and/or lethargy. If these are observed, have Rudi evaluated by a veterianrian for further assessment and treatment as these can be signs of an obstruction which may need therapy. That's not good that Daisy ate a balloon! It's good that she is pooping like normal, and there is a good chance this balloon will pass without problem. It can take up to 72 hours for it to pass however, so continue to keep an eye on her. If she stops eating, starts vomiting, has diarrhea, stops passing feces, and/or becomes very lethargic, then I would take her into a vet immediately. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

If the balloon was an average sized latex balloon I’d guess she’ll pass it without problems. If it was a larger balloon or mylar there might be more concern. If you see Boujee vomit or if her appetite is decreased I’d recommend contacting your vet.

Bella is so cute! I love the picture with the glasses. Unfortunately sometimes surgery is needed to remove a small object, they just aren't able to be passed. Keep in close contact with your vet, and be prepared that she may need surgery if she doesn't pass this pit soon. Best of luck.

Given it was a small size, it should pass fine on it's own. I wouldn't take Bentley into the vet now. You can monitor him for signs of obstruction (vomiting, anorexia, lethargy, constipation), but he should be fine :-)
