My 7-month-old dog ate a deflated balloon. What should I do?

If the balloon was an average sized latex balloon I’d guess she’ll pass it without problems. If it was a larger balloon or mylar there might be more concern. If you see Boujee vomit or if her appetite is decreased I’d recommend contacting your vet.

Most swallowed objects, if they are going to pass through the GI tract without problems, will be pooped out in 2-3 days. On rare occasions, a foreign body may remain in the stomach for weeks or even months but this is very unusual. In most cases, as long as your puppy is eating and drinking normally and acting fine, you shouldn't need to worry.

I'd keep monitoring Bella for now. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, she doesn't poop at all, lethargy, or loss of appetite, then you will have to take her into a vet right away. This may pass without problem, but I can't say for sure.

Balloons are more likely to cause a blockage as they often fill with stuff in the stomach and then become a big ball, so we recommend getting to a vet ASAP to induce vomiting. If you can't get to a vet, monitor very very carefully and any signs of vomiting, not eating, painful abdomen, get to a vet right away as surgery might then be required. Best of luck with Enzo!

Monitor her for any vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, loss of appetite or abdominal pain. She will likely pass small bits if elastic or stuffing over the next few days if she ate any. See your veterinarian if she develops any of the above symptoms.

You can continue to watch her for any evidence of an obstruction which may be observed with symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting, inappetence and/or lethargy. If these are observed, have Rudi evaluated by a veterianrian for further assessment and treatment as these can be signs of an obstruction which may need therapy. You can take Rowena into a vet now to have vomiting induce, or you can keep an eye on her. If you see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or a loss of appetite, you need to have her seen by a vet immediately.
