My dog woke up with bumps on his back. What are they and what to do?

Hello, so this morning i woke up and went outside to feed my dog, a pitbull who is almost a year old, food but i looked at him and saw a lot of bumps on his back? i’ve looked for answers on the internet but i don’t know what it is

Hello, these are hives so Max is having an allergic reaction to something. He may have been bitten by something or inhaled dust & pollen that initiated the reaction. If he is acting normal, this will probably subside over the next 6-12 hours. If he is in any distress at all, itching, wheezing, drooling or vomiting, he needs veterinary attention. If he does not seem bothered by the bumps, you can try bathing him in a mild oatmeal based shampoo, using only cool water. Let the shampoo sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing. If need be you can repeat this tomorrow. If you are at all worried about how he is acting, please see your veterinarian who has the medications necessary to treat this issue. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Moyer! It could be hives or a skin infection. Pit's are prone to allergic reactions and allergies. You can start with a medicated shampoo, bathing 2 times per week leaving the lather on the affected areas for 10 minutes of contact before rinsing. You can also start an antihistamine in case it is hives. If there is no improvement in 1-2 weeks I would have her seen since it has already been a while. She may need oral antibiotics if it is a skin infection or steroids if it is hives. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poo Chevy! It is likely that the bumps are hives and Chevy is suffering from an allergic reaction. Sometime we never know the inciting cause but insects or environmental allergens are the most common, unless he is receiving medications or was recently vaccinated (in the last 24 hours). The standard treatment for hives is benadryl and steroids. Ideally you should have him seen by your Vet. Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Oh dear, this sounds like Bella has hives indicating an allergic reactions to something she was exposed to. Please take her into a veterinarian right away for treatment. She will need antihistamines and a steroid. Whatever she was exposed to needs to be identified so she does not have a reaction like this again. Best of luck!

Since the bumps aren't bothering Max, you can choose to monitor him. They may resolve on their own, but if not then he should be seen by your veterinarian. It could be an allergic reaction or localized infection. Monitor for rapid change or growth, redness, pain, discharge or itching. If necessary, use an e-collar (cone) to prevent licking or chewing until he sees the vet.
