What causes bumps on my Pitbull's back? Allergic reaction or bites?

It looks like Boo could be suffering from an allergic reaction causing hives. The problem with an allergic reaction is that it can quickly progress to swelling of the face and snout, leading to respiratory distress. I would take her into a vet immediately to get treatment for the hives. Best of luck.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Moyer! It could be hives or a skin infection. Pit's are prone to allergic reactions and allergies. You can start with a medicated shampoo, bathing 2 times per week leaving the lather on the affected areas for 10 minutes of contact before rinsing. You can also start an antihistamine in case it is hives. If there is no improvement in 1-2 weeks I would have her seen since it has already been a while. She may need oral antibiotics if it is a skin infection or steroids if it is hives. Hi, thanks for using Petcoach! Poor Catfish (great name!) There could be a couple of things that are causing multiple bumps under the skin. Pit bulls have sensitive skin so it could be a skin infection or even hives from an allergic reaction. You can try Benadryl 25mg tablets 2 every 8 hours and a medicated shampoo. But if things get worse or the bumps don't resolve I recommend seeing your Vet. He may need steroids or an antibiotic. Below is a link of a shampoo I like. Hello, these are hives so Max is having an allergic reaction to something. He may have been bitten by something or inhaled dust & pollen that initiated the reaction. If he is acting normal, this will probably subside over the next 6-12 hours. If he is in any distress at all, itching, wheezing, drooling or vomiting, he needs veterinary attention. If he does not seem bothered by the bumps, you can try bathing him in a mild oatmeal based shampoo, using only cool water. Let the shampoo sit for about 10 minutes before rinsing. If need be you can repeat this tomorrow. If you are at all worried about how he is acting, please see your veterinarian who has the medications necessary to treat this issue. This could be a skin infection, but it can be a sign of an allergic reaction. I would have this checked out by a vet, but if these bumps get worse, Bean's muzzle starts swelling, and/or he has trouble breathing, take him into an ER vet immediately.

You may be describing hives. They just look like small patches of fur that stick up a little more than other areas, and the length of pitbull fur makes them very prominent! If you haven't bathed her since rolling in the grass, I would recommend doing that to wash off any allergens that she may have come in contact with. If they don't get better in a few hours, or if she starts coughing, acting lethargic, or has facial swelling, then she should be seen by a vet for injections of antihistamines and steroids to help with the reaction. Also note that the wet or dry of a dog's nose just depends on their current environment and the time since the last licked it. Same thing for cold or warm! I have never included the nose temperature in my physical exam. ;)
