My dog is straining to pee and vomiting. What could be wrong?

Urinating blood can indicating a bladder infection or something potentially life threatening like a clotting disorder. The fact that he is also committing indicates systemic illness. Hi. Poor wick. It sounds like she has either a UTI, or a vaginitis going on. Both are very treatable. I would call your veterinarian for an appointment for an exam and urinalysis. I would also check kidney enzymes to make sure those are healthy too. Good luck

She may indeed have a UTI, but also a slipped disc in her spine could make urination painful, or bladder stones. Since not being able to urinate can be a life threatening condition and cause kidney damage, it is very important that you take Leeloo to your veterinarian ASAP, ie this is an emergency. Yes, I would take Lala back into the vet. The blood in the urine is concerning and can be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones. The vet can do blood tests and a urinalysis to diagnose what is causing the blood in her urine so she can be treated. As for the vomiting, deep coughs can sometimes cause a dog to vomit but feeling poorly from a UTI can lead to it as well. It would be a good idea to have her seen by a vet today.

The most common reasons for straining to urine, urinary accidents and bloody urine are: urinary tract infections (UTI), crystals in the urine, bladder stones and if she is an older dog a bladder or urethral tumor. I recommend collecting a urine sample and bringing her to the Vet before the weekend as she is very uncomfortable. The urine sample can determine if she has an infection or crystals and an X-ray is needed to check for bladder stones. I wish Chi Chi a speedy recovery!
