Why is my puppy squatting to pee with no urine and vomiting kibble?

This behavior is very common with UTI, but could also be caused by urinary bladder stones, kidney disease, and a few other things. I would recommend that you have Ruby examined by a vet. A urinalysis and x-rays of the bladder to check for stones are the first step.

Wilma will need to be checked out by a vet in the morning. If she does have a urinary infection, a vet can diagnose it and prescribe medication to treat it. Tonight, feed her canned food and add water to it to flush her bladder. I hope this helps.

If the antibiotics didn't make much difference, I'd be suspicious of puppy vaginitis, which is a relatively common inflammatory condition that can lead to accidents and sometimes make them more susceptible to urinary infections. It generally resolves with age. I would also check for a stricture (this may require sedation as they don't love vaginal palpation...). For now, since your vet hasn't been able to check a urinalysis, that would be the first priority. See if you can get a sample- sneak a small container under her when she squats. If you have to hold onto the sample a few hours before dropping it at your vet, stick it in the fridge, but the fresher the better. If you're having no luck, your vet can collect a sterile sample via cystocentesis. Hope this helps.

The straining to urinate along with the increased thirst may indeed indicate a developing UTI. You would need to have Zo physically examined by your veterinarian for confirmation. A sterile urine sample should be collected and submitted for urinalysis and urine culture/sensitivity. This may identify the organism responsible as well as the best antibiotic to use in treatment. Your vet may recommend abdominal x-rays or ultrasound to rule out kidney or bladder stones. Given current events, you may need to drop her off at the clinic then wait for the doctor to call you to discuss exam findings and treatment options.

She may have a urinary infection or a puppy vaginitis. I recommend having a urinalysis done and an exam to see if there is a medical problem. Antibiotics and urinary tract infections themselves can both cause nausea/vomiting. However, as you finished the antibiotics 5 days ago, it is less likely that the vomiting is due to the UTI antibiotics. If she has recently gotten table food or had access to food from the garbage, she may have a condition called pancreatitis caused by a sudden high fat meal that may cause vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain. A trip to your veterinarian for screening bloodwork to rule out a liver/kidney/pancreas issue as the cause of the vomiting, subcutaneous fluid therapy, anti-nausea medication (cerenia), and a prescription intestinal diet is advised. If you are not able to get an appointment immediately, I recommend feeding only a bland diet of boiled rice and chicken (with no regular kibble) for the next 3-5 days. Sometimes this alone helps resolve the symptoms of mild gastroenteritis. Good luck!

I would not do anything at this point. Just monitor her and see how she does over the next day or so. It would be odd for a puppy this age to have a UTI so if she doesn't seem better by Monday you should have her examined by a vet. Vets are open for urgent care and emergencies.
