My dog drips blood after peeing and straining to mark. Is it a UTI?

Pet's info: Dog | Pit Bull Terrier | Male | neutered | 6 years and 4 months old | 57 lbs

My dog pees like normal, but lately after emptying his bladder, he tries marking territory and just a couple drops of blood/pee come out. Is he straining to mark territory making this happen? His pee is not bloody or tinted and his behavior/eating has been nothing but normal.

This behavior can actually be a sign of a UTI or bladder stones. I'd have Monty seen by a vet for this for blood work and a urinalysis. Using these tests, the vet can diagnose if he has one of the things I mentioned above, and can treat him. I'd take him into a vet today. I hope this helps!

Blood in urine can be a sign of a bladder infection, kidney infection, uterine infection or a tumor of the urinary tract. Cephalexin is not a proper antibiotic for a UTI as the antibiotic given for UTI needs to concentrate in the urinary tract in order to work properly. There also may be an infection by a resistant strain of bacteria. You will need to take your dog to your vet for an exam, a urinalysis and further diagnostics if warranted, in order to properly diagnose the problem and treat accordingly.

It is important to see if he is trying to urinate and passing urine or just straining with no output. This may be a sign of a bladder infection or bladder stones. Either of these can have perfectly normal blood work associated with it. You will need a urine sample and an x-ray to see the stones and/or infection

My dog's urine is black. Is it a UTI, bleeding, or serious? Vet needed?

It certainly isn't normal for a dog's urine to have a black color to it, and yes it can indicate that Black has a UTI or bladder stones. I see that he isn't neutered. In dogs who aren't neutered, prostate problems could also be a cause of the color of his urine. These problems include benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, and prostate cancer. My dog has a UTI. Why is she bleeding after starting antibiotics?

Frequent licking and blood in the urine are signs of an infection. However if it flared after the start of the antibiotics then I would pursue further testing. Did they do anytime sample tonxhexk for cells and crystals and see what bacteria what present? From there you need an X-ray or an ultrasound to make sure there are no bladder stones as this can require surgery or the problem will keep occurring without.

He could have a urinary tract infection so he should be examined by a vet. Your vet can run a urinalysis to look for infection and other potential causes. He could also have urinary stones, prostate problem, tumor, etc. If he has an infection then he will need an antibiotic to treat.

Why is my dog peeing blood if her urine tests are normal?

Blood in the urine is never normal, even if it only occurs intermittently. Likewise, it’s unusual for Tilly to experience so much inconsistency in her urination habits. Some young female dogs can have recessed or hooded vulvas, which can make them more prone to developing urinary tract infections. However, since Tilly’s urine has twice not shown evidence of infection, it sounds as though it’s time to look in a different direction. I would start by asking your vet if they can take x-rays of her abdomen to check for evidence of bladder stones. The crystals associated with bladder stones often show up on a urinalysis (I’m assuming that’s what was done with her urine samples), but not always. If the X-rays are clear, your next step may be an ultrasound of her bladder with a veterinary radiologist to check for any other abnormalities. Bladder tumors can also cause similar signs, although that would be highly unlikely given how young Tilly is. I hope this helps and that you can find some answers soon!

Blood in the urine can be from a urinary tract infection for which Clavamox is usually an appropriate antibiotic. Blood in the urine however can also be due to crystals that are forming and irritating the bladder/urethral lining. If you haven’t already submitted a urine sample for a urinalysis (to determine specific gravity /whether the kidneys are concentrating the urine properly, whether there is glucose in the urine which is usually a symptom of diabetes, whether there is bacteria/white blood cells in the urine and whether there are crystals and what kind, I would recommend submitting a urine sample to your vet’s office for a urinalysis and then starting the antibiotics prescribed. If Summer has stones, she likely has crystals as well and may benefit from being on a prescription crystal dissolving diet such as Royal Canin Urinary S/O or Hills C/D for life depending on the type of crystals seen.
