My dog strained and had bloody poop. Is this a serious concern?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | unneutered | 1 year old | 60 lbs

My dog was pooping and had blood on his poop and his butt afterwards. It looked like he was having trouble pooping and only had one turd come out. He did fine pooping later in the day around 5. No blood no struggle. Should I be concerned?

Oh no, poor Ghost. He may have had blood on his poop because he was having trouble pooping and that lead to damage to the GI tract. Keep an eye on him for now, and feed him canned food with water added to it. If you see blood again on his poop or he keeps having trouble pooping, take him into the vet.
