What medicines are best for dog stomach ulcers with kidney disease?

Royal Canin gastrointestinal diet is a good guality, bland, and easily digestible diet that he may benefit from long term. Many patients with gastrointestinal problems benefit from eating these bland diets life long. I would encourage you to visit with his veterinarian for a discussion about long term management. Often, follow up examinations and further testing (like fecal exams for parasites, endoscopy, or even biopsies) are needed to develop the best long term plan. I hope he continues to improve.

Hello. Do you mean Previcox for osteoarthritis in dogs? Some dogs may be sensitive to drugs like Previcox & they can cause significant stomach irritation, even ulcers. Ranitidine is an H-2 receptor antagonist that is used to decrease gastric acid & help treat exisitng ulcers & erosions. But ranitidine, or other H-2 antagonists, are not effective in preventing ulcers due to NSAIDS such as Previcox. So no, this is not generally recommended. I am so sorry for your loss. Stomach ulcers in a cat can develop secondary to some medication use or overdoses of anti-inflammatories. Ulcers can also develop as a result of severe gastritis (stomach inflammation) that can be seen when a cat has an underlying kidney problem. Toxins and chronic GI parasites are also a possibility. Even severe cases of inflammatory bowel disease could cause this. It's very difficult to nail down an exact cause without doing blood work and other diagnostics like ultrasound. Sometimes ulcers can be treated by using medications that block stomach acid production like famotidine and omeprazole. Something like sucralfate can also be used to coat the ulcer while it heals. Hello, sorry to hear about Pablo. In dogs that have a GI ulcer that has perforated, they typically require surgery to remove the abnormal portion of the stomach or small intestine. Hi, is she on medications for her stomach ulcer ? Ulcers are sooooo painful so any food will make her uncomfortable. I think she should ate least be on Omeprazole .. regarding food a natural diet such as Almo Nature would be my choice ! Best wishes
