My dog spaces out and drools without convulsing. Is it a seizure?

It sounds like to me that Charlie may have severe dental problems causing this excessive drooling and not wanting to eat. He could also have a GI illness causing his symptoms. I would take Charlie into a vet first thing in the morning for an exam.

It is hard to say exactly without seeing a video of the spells that are concerning; however, it seems that seizures are a possibility here. I would highly recommend recording one of these episodes on your phone and showing them to your veterinarian for verification of what exactly these are. If they are seizures, then this is considered an uncontrolled condition if they are happening more than once every 30 days, and Charlie would need to start taking anti-seizure medication to help stabilize his condition and help prevent any permanent brain damage. It's possible that this could have been a type of a seizure, but there are other conditions and behaviors that could mimic a seizure. If this continues, or Bruno is otherwise acting abnormal, then it's best to have him examined by a vet as soon as possible. If Bruno is otherwise acting normal, then there is no need to rush him to the vet, but it would be good to have a vet evaluate him sometime in the near future, because the vet may detect an underlying problem (i.e. heart or neurologic disease) causing this convulsing. It would also be very helpful for you to record a video of him doing the convulsing behavior if you happen to see it again. I hope that helps and all is well with Bruno.

I am very sorry to hear about Clouds. I would definitely recommend a visit to your vet for an exam and bloodwork. It sounds as though this could be a seizure, and if they are occurring this frequently he needs treatment. The vet will do an exam and discuss the episodes with you and decide if they feel seizures were taking place (take a video if you see this happen again), and they will want to do bloodwork to rule out some possible causes of seizure such as liver disease or infection, and can discuss starting medication to help stop these episodes.

This could be a form of seizure activity. I recommend getting your dog seen by your vet as soon as possible for an exam and lab work. If you can get a video of the episode, please do, so your vet will know what you're seeing. Sustained or repeated seizures can cause the body temperature to rise to dangerous levels and increases the risk of brain damage. When you have a chance, take a look around and see if you can find anything he might have gotten into, since poisoning is one of the causes of seizures. If he has a history of liver or kidney disease, this is also a potential cause. Sometimes we never know why a pet has a seizure. If he does have a series of seizures, your vet will want to do an exam and bloodwork to try and determine a cause and potentially put your pet on anti-seizure medication to lessen the chances of this happening again in the future.
