My dog woke up choking, drooling, and peeing. Could it be a seizure?

I hate to hear that Peyton had some sort of an episode. Certainly urinating on himself is suspicious of a seizure type activity, although other neurological abnormalities could cause similar signs. I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian today if possible. The doctor will check his neurological reflexes to try to determine the cause. If it was a seizure, this can be caused by epilepsy, electrolyte imbalance, liver disease or cancer. The doctor will likely recommend blood work and may have further recommendations pending lab results and physical exam. I hope your boy does well! It sounds like Misha may have had a seizure, as that would cause her to be out of it for some time, urinate herself, and take time to return to normal. She may have hit her head when she fell off the sofa, and that could have caused the seizure. Please keep in mind that without seeing her in person, I cannot say for certain if she had a seizure, but it sounds like it could be from your description. Because of her young age, the fact she fell off the sofa, and the possibility she could have had a seizure from head trauma, she should see a vet immediately to be safe. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Other signs of seizures would be strange behavior before the seizure, the seizure itself can include shaking or tending of all the muscles, Bailey may urinate or defecate during as well. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and trying to film this if it happens again to show your vet. They can determine the cause of the seizure with blood work and more advanced imaging such as a CT scan. If seizure activity is confirmed, Bailey will likely be placed on anti-seizure medication. So sorry about your dog. Besides it being caused by a seizure disorder, he could have something like laryngeal paralysis, collapsing trachea or be having a syncopal (fainting) episode from a heart problem. You could try to record one so your vet can see exactly what is happening. If the episodes continue and your vet is not able to control them, ask for a referral to a specialist for more testing. It might be a good idea to take a chest x-ray, have an ultrasound of his heart, and/or examination of his throat to look for laryngeal paralysis. Hope he gets better soon!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bailey. I recommend that he see a veterinarian. He could have experienced a seizure and is taking a while to recover. If this is not the case, small breed dogs are prone to neck and/or back pain. This is a potentially serious situation as it can lead to weak or paralysis in certain cases. His veterinarian will be able to guide as far as treatment based on his exam findings. In the meantime, keep him quiet and do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Hi and thanks for posting. This is very concerning to me especially since Bella is having trouble breathing. There could be a wide variety of reasons for all of these symptoms. Please take Bella to a vet ASAP to get evaluated immediately. She will need an exam and likely blood work and/or x-ray or other advanced imaging to help determine what is going on.

I would be very concerned that Bella got into something toxic causing her symptoms, or she could have had a seizures. She needs veterinary attention now to diagnose the cause of her symptoms so she can be treated. Please take her into a vet right away.
