My dog's snout is swollen with a strange ridged spot. Is it serious?

It looks like Gunther either got a bump on the nose and that is a bit of a bruise, or more likely was either bitten or stung by an insect. I would recommend monitoring it closely. If you notice the muzzle/around the eyes/jaw/lips/ears starting to swell, or if you notice hives on Gunther, then I would get him to a vet right away for a couple injections to stop the allergic reaction. Otherwise, I would just monitor the bump. If it grows at all, or has any discharge, or doesn't go away in 2 days, then I would have it looked at by a vet. Best of luck with Gunther.

Hi. That is definitely some severe swelling. Due to its location and presentation, I would be very concerned about a tooth root abscess. These can occur even if the crown of the tooth appears normal. It takes an x-ray to fully diagnose it. Other possible causes of swelling like this in a young dog could include a bite from insect or spider, injury, trauma, or infection. I recommend getting him to your veterinarian to be checked out tomorrow.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the pictures you have provided, I would suspect this to be a skin tumor. It looks to be benign and similar to what we call a sebaceous adenoma. It may have been much smaller previously and if it was bumped or traumatized may have grown in size due to inflammation. If this is bleeding and does not go down in size, I would suggest having it removed. Many of these can be frozen off with cryo treatment that many vet clinics provide as a service. Poor guy. I can understand your hesitation to take him in. It does look swollen and could very welll just be a bug bite. I would continue the small thin layer of Neosporin twice a day and continue to monitor this thing. You can also try cold compresses on it (if tolerated) for roughly 5 mins twice a day. There isn’t much else you can do for this that is available over the counter. If it does not improve or resolve within a week or two, then you will need to get your vet involved unfortunately. A skin mass would be the number one suspicion if it does not resolve itself, and a biopsy or fine needle aspirate will be the next step towards identifying what kind of mass it is. Hello, I am sorry to hear about Rome. It looks like Rome has hives likely secondary to an allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can occur secondary to many things such as vaccines, medications, insects, etc. I would recommend contacting your veterinarian or an ER facility immediately to discuss Rome’s case further. They can help you determine if he needs to be evaluated tonight or if he can receive oral medications, such as Benadryl at home. Hope this helps, good luck!

A swollen muzzle is most commonly due to an allergic reaction, often to an insect bite or bee sting. It could also be from an infection near her muzzle. If she's otherwise acting completely normal you can monitor her; an allergic reaction should get gradually better and usually resolves in 24 hours or sooner. An infection would not improve without antibiotics, so if the swelling continues or if any other symptoms appear she should be seen by a vet. Hope this helps!

It is hard to tell from the photo the characteristics of this bump. I would say it is possible it is related to trauma and I would monitor for now but it could also be a tumor (either benign or malignant). My recommendation would be to monitor it for the next 24 to 48 hours, and if it is still there in the same size or it is bigger I would have a veterinarian examin the area. Further testing might need to be considered such as taking a sample of the mass and sending it out for interpretation at the laboratory. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
