Why is my dog's snout suddenly swollen with merged spots?

Oh dear, poor Tomo! Both the bump on his nose and the red bumps around his mouth look most consistent with hives. Hives occur most commonly as a result of an allergic reaction. Unfortunately, we often are unable to determine the precise cause of these reactions, but they can occur due to insect bites or contact allergies with different grasses, leaves, chemicals, among many others. Most allergic reactions can be managed with antihistamines, such as Benadryl (here is some more information: https://www.petcoach.co/canigive/dog/benadryl/ ), but some more severe reactions also require corticosteroids, such as prednisone. I strongly recommend discussing medication options with Tomo's vet or even taking him in for an exam to assure that there are not other more serious issues present. This is most likely due to an allergic reaction. On the muzzle this is usually happens with an insect sting, or reaction to a poisonous plant (i.e. poison oak). This is usually temporary, but can lead to a skin infection, so it's good to flush the area with cool water 2-3 times a day. Flush the area using a syringe or other dispensing device with cool water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate water getting near their face. I recommend having someone help you with holding Bob to make sure the area gets flushed well. After flushing, you can apply aloe gel to the area to provide more relief. If the swelling is not going down within two days, then I would reccomend taking him to the vet for an evaluation. It may take a week for it to look normal, but it should start to look better within a couple of days. These reactions have the potential to get worse, so if the swelling is increasing, or Bob is having trouble breathing, then be he should go to the vet as soon as possible for treatment. It sounds like Ruffo may be experiencing an allergic reaction. This could be due to something in the environment, foods, bee stings, etc, especially if it is causing facial swelling or puffiness. I would definitely schedule a visit with your vet to figure out the underlying cause and get him started on some meds such as an antihistamines to help with the swelling and itchiness. If the swelling worsens on his nose, or appears on his face, head, or neck, seeking care sooner is best as this is considered a serious condition.

It could be an allergic reaction of some kind, a bacterial or fungal infection, or an autoimmune disease. I really think you should take her to a vet for an exam. If it is starting in other locations on her body then then I would be very worried about this being an autoimmune disease (such as pemphigus). This is not something that you will be able to treat at home.

Kaiser likely has bruising in the soft raised ridged spot. It looks like he abraded the skin from his muzzle as well and some damaged skin appears to be peeling. Especially if he is not acting ike it hurts, I recommend just waiting for the skin and bruising to heal within a week or two. It does not look like his skin is infected, however if the area becomes more swollen over the next few days/appears oozy, I recommend bringing him to your veterinarian for antibiotics and non-steroidal anti- inflammatory pain medication +/- a topical steroid/antibiotic ointment for a potential abscess. Currently it looks like just bruised/abraded skin that will heal on its own with time. Good luck!

Hi. I'm so sorry about Leo, and your son. Unfortunately, these look pretty severe, and if they are coming up quickly, it could be some kind of allergic reaction. But they look possibly infected as well. Therefore, the best thing would be to get her in. If that isn't possible until morning, you can try benadryl 50mg by mouth.
