Dog's nose swollen, not bothering him. What can I do at home?

Hello. A localized swelling like this in a relatively young dog is probably just some kind of allergic reaction. I agree with you that it is probably from an insect sting or bite. If Buddy will allow it, you can apply a cool compress or an ice cube wrapped in a wash cloth for as long as he will tolerate it. If it is not significantly down by tomorrow, you may want your vet to take a look, but there does not seem to be anything very worrisome about this. That is a really large swelling so he should be examined and treated by a vet. Your vet can do some testing to figure out the cause and then prescribe medications to treat. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, corticosteroid, or other medications. Please call your vet and have him examined.

Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the pictures you have provided, I would suspect this to be a skin tumor. It looks to be benign and similar to what we call a sebaceous adenoma. It may have been much smaller previously and if it was bumped or traumatized may have grown in size due to inflammation. If this is bleeding and does not go down in size, I would suggest having it removed. Many of these can be frozen off with cryo treatment that many vet clinics provide as a service. This is most likely due to an allergic reaction. On the muzzle this is usually happens with an insect sting, or reaction to a poisonous plant (i.e. poison oak). This is usually temporary, but can lead to a skin infection, so it's good to flush the area with cool water 2-3 times a day. Flush the area using a syringe or other dispensing device with cool water for five minutes. This may not be easy, because dogs tend to hate water getting near their face. I recommend having someone help you with holding Bob to make sure the area gets flushed well. After flushing, you can apply aloe gel to the area to provide more relief. If the swelling is not going down within two days, then I would reccomend taking him to the vet for an evaluation. It may take a week for it to look normal, but it should start to look better within a couple of days. These reactions have the potential to get worse, so if the swelling is increasing, or Bob is having trouble breathing, then be he should go to the vet as soon as possible for treatment. I see what you mean about Jasper's swelling! It could be from an insect's sting, but it could also be a contact allergy. If you won't let you put ice on it, I wouldn't keep trying it. Keep an eye on it tonight, and if the swelling is still present in the morning or keeps worse, take him into a vet for treatment.

Since she isn't responding to antibiotics I would worry that she has a tooth root abscess, a nasal tumor or a fungal infection in her nasal cavity. I would do full blood work and then sedated her to take skull X-rays and X-ray the teeth on that side of her face. I hope this helps and I wish Neo the very best!

This looks like a mild skin infection or irritation from an insect bite or injury. You can wash it with antibacterial soap, rinse it well and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. As long as there are no other spots this should heal fine. The overlying skin may come off and then the pinker skin may be showing until the fur grows back in which could take a month or so.
