My dog's snout is swollen and painful to touch. What's wrong?

I would recommend taking Rozzi to a veterinarian. I would call yours in the morning. It is difficult to say definitively what is going on but from the pictures it looks like a potential tooth root abscess. A tooth root abscess can appear as one side of the face or mouth is swollen. The way to treat this is antibiotics, pain meds and pulling the affected tooth. If the swelling gets worse overnight then I recommend an emergency veterinarian for a possible allergic reaction. A swollen muzzle is most commonly due to an allergic reaction, often to an insect bite or bee sting. It could also be from an infection near her muzzle. If she's otherwise acting completely normal you can monitor her; an allergic reaction should get gradually better and usually resolves in 24 hours or sooner. An infection would not improve without antibiotics, so if the swelling continues or if any other symptoms appear she should be seen by a vet. Hope this helps!

If it is not bothering Peanut at all, just monitor him at home and the swelling should disappear in less than 24hrs. If it becomes itchy and your dog stars to have fast and noisy respiration, you should take him to your local vets for an appointment.

She may have injured it, have an infection, a growth in it, or is suffering from an allergic reaction. She will have to see a vet for this. If she can breathe ok, isn't lethargic, and is otherwise acting normally, it can wait until the morning. Hi. That is definitely some severe swelling. Due to its location and presentation, I would be very concerned about a tooth root abscess. These can occur even if the crown of the tooth appears normal. It takes an x-ray to fully diagnose it. Other possible causes of swelling like this in a young dog could include a bite from insect or spider, injury, trauma, or infection. I recommend getting him to your veterinarian to be checked out tomorrow.

I see what you mean about Jasper's swelling! It could be from an insect's sting, but it could also be a contact allergy. If you won't let you put ice on it, I wouldn't keep trying it. Keep an eye on it tonight, and if the swelling is still present in the morning or keeps worse, take him into a vet for treatment.
