My dog had a sneezing fit that looked like a seizure. Should I worry?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 1 year and 8 months old | 45 lbs

My dog just had a sneezing fit where only her left eye closed and she sneezed for about 30 seconds it looked as if she were having seizure. She’s playing fine now should I be worried?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. If you suspect that Daisy had a seizure, I would try and get her examined by a veterinarian sooner rather than later. It is possible that this was not a seizure and was purely a sneezing fit. If Daisy appears to be normal now after the incident, I would monitor her for now and then take her in if the sneezing / seizure like activity recurs. If she continues to have seizure like episodes, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Daisy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. I'd strongly recommend taking Joe to see a veterinarian right away as seizures can be caused by a number of things including toxin exposure. It could have also been due to a respiratory or heart issue. Either cause is serious and requires emergency veterinary attention. My dog trembled, went unconscious, then panted. Was it a seizure?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Bailey definitely may have had a seizure. Other signs of seizures would be strange behavior before the seizure, the seizure itself can include shaking or tending of all the muscles, Bailey may urinate or defecate during as well. I recommend keeping a close eye on her and trying to film this if it happens again to show your vet. They can determine the cause of the seizure with blood work and more advanced imaging such as a CT scan. If seizure activity is confirmed, Bailey will likely be placed on anti-seizure medication. My dog had a long reverse sneeze and looked like she couldn't breathe.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Reverse sneezing can look quite scary at times so I understand your concern. However, thankfully this usually is benign and rarely becomes anything concerning. Most dogs just have reverse sneezing episodes every once in a while without causing any issues. If this ever seems to affect Diva in any way or if these episodes become too frequent, have her evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment to make sure that this is not anything else more concerning. My dog had a seizure, wet himself, and snores loudly. What's wrong?

I hate to hear that Peyton had some sort of an episode. Certainly urinating on himself is suspicious of a seizure type activity, although other neurological abnormalities could cause similar signs. I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian today if possible. The doctor will check his neurological reflexes to try to determine the cause. If it was a seizure, this can be caused by epilepsy, electrolyte imbalance, liver disease or cancer. The doctor will likely recommend blood work and may have further recommendations pending lab results and physical exam. I hope your boy does well! My 8-month-old dog is sneezing. Is it allergies? Should I see a vet?

I would recommended Kaya see her veterinarian for an exam so her vet can determine whether or not she has an infection or whether it is just caused by an allergy and to determine what treatment may be most appropriate. Why is my puppy wheezing and sneezing but acting completely normal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sugar is super cute! It sounds like Sugar may be reverse sneezing. It sounds like a sucking in sneeze through the nose where they tend to hold their mouth open and grimace. I recommend searching YouTube for videos and see if that is what she is doing. It is common in some breeds (beagles). Some causes are allergies, inhaled some dust particles, foreign material stuck up the nose or above the soft palpate. If the episodes continue video tape it and take her to the Vet for an exam. I hope this helps and I wish you and Sugar the best!

My dog has loud breathing and shaking spells. Are they seizures?

Hi and thanks for visiting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to say exactly without seeing a video of the spells that are concerning; however, it seems that seizures are a possibility here. I would highly recommend recording one of these episodes on your phone and showing them to your veterinarian for verification of what exactly these are. If they are seizures, then this is considered an uncontrolled condition if they are happening more than once every 30 days, and Charlie would need to start taking anti-seizure medication to help stabilize his condition and help prevent any permanent brain damage.
