My 8-month-old dog is sneezing. Is it allergies? Should I see a vet?

If this has been going on for several days without any improvement, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Ivy so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. She may or may not need an antibiotic if this is an upper respiratory infection. If she has not had an antihistamine before, you can always try Benadryl or Zyrtec but I would discuss this with your vet first. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. Sneezing can definitely be due to allergies and that is probably the most common reason. Some medications for allergies can be started for this to be used on an as needed basis. If her diarrhea or sneezing persist, I recommend that you have Irie evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They may choose to check for parasites and to start medications for diarrhea and/or allergies depending on the results of needed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

While she could be experiencing allergies as they are common this time of year, a respiratory tract infection is also possible. Given how frequently her symptoms are occurring, I worry that she does have an infection. If so, she may need an antibiotic. In the meantime, you can place her the bathroom while you shower. The warm humid air can help lessen any congestion she may have. I hope this information helps!

If he's acting fairly normal otherwise (eating and drinking fine, active, etc.) you could opt to monitor him for now and see how things go for the next few days. The problem may resolve on its own, similar to when we get a minor cold or allergy flare-up. If there is no improvement in the next 2-3 days, or if your pup develops other symptoms such as coughing, thick green or yellow nasal discharge, or begins acting very lethargic or not eating, then I would recommend having him seen by a veterinarian for treatment.

This sign could be compatible with an upper respiratory tract inflammation/infection or eventually to a persistent rhinitis (inflammatory, allergic, infective). A clinical examination at your local veterinarian is essential to confirm these clinical suspicions and treat appropriately if the signs persist more than 12 hours. Antibiotics may be needed.
