Why is my dog on antibiotics for throat infection sneezing blood?

My dog is on antibiotics for throat infection but is sneezing a lot and has bloody discharge coming from his nose

Hello, & thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. A bloody nasal discharge may just be a part of Yoshi's infection, but I would contact the veterinarian who placed him on the antibiotics to especially apprise him if this is a new symptom. It is possible that Yoshi's infection was actually in his sinuses, not in his throat & he may need a change of antibiotics, or the addition of another medication to make him comfortable. Hopefully, he will be feeling better soon. Take care.

I would definitely be concerned about the bloody nose. Since he does frequent the dog park, infections such as bordetella, influenza, or even contagious nasal mites are possible. A nasal foreign body is also possible. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Antibiotics may be recommended. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. My dog sneezes blood after antibiotics failed. Is it aspergillosis?

Poor Mazie! A fungal infection like aspergillosis is certainly one possible cause of persistent sneezing and nosebleeds that are not resolved with antibiotics. Other possibilities would include a nasal foreign body, or a nasal tumor. I would recommend talking to your veterinarian about the next steps from here to try and get a diagnosis. In many cases, referral to a specialist for rhinoscopy and a CT scan is needed to determine the problem.

My dog sneezed blood. Vet suggests imaging, but I fear anesthesia.

The big question is the nasal discharge, especially the bloody one is it from one nostril or is it from both? If it is from one then I highly recommend going for advanced imaging of Max's nose. My pug keeps sneezing with mucus. Why aren't antibiotics working?

This could be due to a foreign body located in the nose for example or possibly a fungal infection or a bacterial infection that requires a longer course of antibiotics. It is possible that the bite wound may be deeper than it appears, it may need stitches, or it may need antibiotics to prevent it from becoming infected. I would have it seen by your regular veterinarian, have them assess the severity, and determine if further treatment is necessary. Good luck!

Dog's nose bleeds on antibiotics for plant debris. What should I do?

I think you need to get a second opinion from another vet, preferably one who has a rhinoscope and can actually look into your dog's upper respiratory passages. By examining the nasal passages with a rhinoscope one will be able to see whether there is a tumor present or more plant debris or foreign material that may need to be removed and so stop the constant infections and bleeding. Your vet may be able to refer you to a relevant clinic.
