My dog sleeps with his paw on my foot. What does it mean?

This is a very common behavior, and usually is endearing, though occasionally annoying. ;) Generally the thought is that dogs just want to confirm that they approve of your petting them or reaffirm that they don’t want you to move the hand that’s petting them. Usually when cats knead they purr and it brings them contentment and security (they like it) which is likely linked to when they were nursing kittens. They tend to knead also before laying down, so they may be preparing their bed, blankets or lab to lay down. When they knead their own it is a sign of affection and love! I hope this helps!

However, even signs of happiness can hurt a little when given by such a large dog and I recommend teaching her not to jump up. Some puppies do this as a self-soothing behavior, similar to the way a human child might suck on his thumb or a pacifier. It's usually a harmless quirk that often goes away with age, although some dogs continue to do it as adults. It shouldn't be anything to worry about :)

I would recommend perhaps that your son washes his feet to change their scent and that way he may not smell anything and that would make him calm down. Good luck and have a great day!
