My dog sleeps more after vet visit. Is it medication or loneliness?

Lack of energy can be the sign of many things that go from just being tired to actually representing a problem like due to pain for example. If he is otherwise fine, I recommend you keep a close eye on him for now. I'm sorry to hear that Loki isn't feeling great. If his ears are really sore, that could certainly make him more sleepy than usual. He should start feeling much better after about 3 days on the ear medications - if he's not perking up I would recommend giving your vet a call to see if they want him to come back in. It's fine to give the Malmetazone twice daily. The website will list the way the product was approved to be used or the way the manufacturer recommends it be used, but we frequently modify these recommendations to meet the needs of individual patients or based on more recent research. I would recommend continuing to give both treatments as recommended. I hope Loki is feeling better soon! If lethargy is the only sign you are seeing at the moment, I would continue to monitor him for now as this could be just a transient thing due to discomfort from a long hike for example, among other possibilities. However, if this continues throughout the day or he develops any other signs such as inappetence, vomiting and/or diarrhea, have him evaluated then. Good luck!

Great question! Unfortunately, I don't have a great answer. If your dog is eating and drinking normally and the issues that necessitated her hospitalization have resolved, I would be far less concerned. Until she has completed the courses of medication, it is ultimately impossible to determine if her lethargy is secondary to medication or due to illness. Consider calling your vet to discuss if any of the medications can be discontinued or if any doses can be reduced to limit potential lethargy. I hope that all goes well!

If Stanley was sedated today or if he is on an opioid type pain medication, then yes, he could be sleepy because of that. If he did not receive any type of medication today, it's hard to say why he's tired. Watch him closely for any signs of illness or prolonged lethargy (like if he is still quiet tomorrow). Hello. Puppies do sleep a lot. As long as Sky has periods of activity & is eating well, at least 3 times a day, & has regular eliminations, no diarrhea, then he is not probably overtly ill. But if he is suddenly acting sleepy when he was a more active pup, then this is not normal & he probably needs to be evaluated by your veterinarian. It sounds like Knox is lethargic. Lethargy is a very general sign of illness, and it could be caused by systemic illness, infection, inflammation, or injury. Because this behavior has been ongoing for the past couple of days, I would have him seen by the vet in the morning for a health check. I hope this helps!
