Is my dog's lethargy from meds or illness after being hospitalized?

She is on a lot of meds and probably still not completely out of the woods yet. Medications such as ondansetron can also be a little sedating for dogs as well. It would be hard to put an exact timeline on when she'll be better, but energy should gradually return as she begins to eat more, and her body finishes fighting what is making her ill.

However, it could also be that this is Loki's typical behavior and sleeping pattern during the day while you are away from home. Dogs usually sleep most of the day and that is normal. She may be lethargic due to pain. I suggest you call your vet to see if you can get a different pain medication. I have eye problems and I can tell you it is miserable and very painful and you don't feel like doing much. I'm guessing that may be going on with her. I'm glad the eye is looking better though!

He could simply be tired, but if it goes on for more than 24 hours, I'd recommend a check up with his vet to make sure nothing is going on. He could have pulled a muscle or eaten something more than you realized during the visit. If he's not eating, extremely lethargic, or vomiting, I'd go to the vet ASAP.

Poor Luna! She may benefit from intravenous fluids. Have you veterinarian check some bloodwork to see if her liver or kidneys were affected. It is difficult to say what this could be, but some dogs are hardy enough that the only symptom they may show of being ill is lethargy. I would certainly recommend having him checked out by a vet to be sure we are not missing a medical issue. They can perform a full physical exam to check for any areas of pain or infection, and may recommend additional blood tests or x-rays depending on what is found on the physical exam. For example, some problems I commonly see after grooming visits are skin or ear infections. If this is detected by the vet, they can recommend medications to help clear the issue. If he physically checks out fine, it is possible this may be a purely behavioural issue, in which case the vet can also provide advice on how to help as well.
