Why does my dog sleep in her bed when I'm alone, but with us?

Precious may be too hot on the bed, or she may have found another place she prefers to sleep that feels more secure. If she also has changes to her appetite or energy level, or if she is coughing, sneezing, vomiting or having diarrhea, I recommend having her seen by a vet, as sometimes changes in behaviour/ sleep patterns can indicate illness.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If all the dogs are tolerating sharing of the beds I don't think there is much to do or read in to. Since Milo doesn't normally live with you he probably isn't possessive of this bed and he is young at 10 months. Anakin must like the bed. If it bothers you then I would keep removing Anakin from Milo's bed and try to keep each dog in their respective places but it may be a losing battled unless you physically separate the dogs at night in different rooms. There is no way to know exactly why Mya is exhibiting this new behavior. It could be as simple as she is just too hot in the bed, or feels nervous about jumping up or down, etc. As long as she seems completely normal otherwise, and has no vomiting, diarrhea, or other medical issues going on, I would try not to worry too much about it. Any abnormal behavior that is seemingly unexplained warrants an exam by your vet. You need to rule out an underlying medical problem before you assume it is behavioral especially if nothing has changed in the environment. You have a few options: 1. Have your vet check him over - especially his vision and hearing to rule out a medical issue. The lighting may be causing him issues in those particular rooms. 2. Something may have scared him in those rooms. Don't force him to go in there and just leave him be. He doesn't have to sleep in there with you. 3. Contact a professional, in-home dog trainer to come over and assess the situation to see if this is a behavioral issue that can be corrected.
