Why is my dog's skin red and hot after his flea and tick bath?

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. He could be suffering from an allergic reaction from the heat, environment, or fleas. You can give him a bath with head and shoulders shampoo to help with the dry skin until your vet can check the area for an underlying cause.

Hi there. Beau may indeed be having a reaction to the shampoo. I would definitely use another dog shampoo and wash that Hartz product off. If you have access to an open animal hospital at this time I would definitely bring him in to be seen. He is very tiny, and it may be that the flea shampoo ingredients were a bit much for him. The tremoring could also be because is chilly, but I just wouldn't take the chance. I definitely don't want to alarm you, but I would just take him in to see a vet.

If he is having a localized reaction to the ingredients in the topical medication, then it's best to bathe him in an aloe based or oatmeal based shampoo from your local pet store at this point. You have stripped off as much product as you can with the Dawn. Also try applying a topical hot spot spray from your local pet store may help provide some topical relief. Hot spot sprays typically have a steroid in them, which is a good anti-inflammatory. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). If you suspect the flea treatment is responsible for this i recommend washing your dog very well with an anti allergenic dog shampoo, it will take several days to clear up but other than that no other treatment is usually required.

I'm sorry Fox isn't doing well! It could be that he is experiencing an allergic reaction, causing the pinkish red color of his skin, the pimple things, and making the skin feel hotter than normal. He could also have an bacterial infection causing his symptoms. Without seeing him in person, I couldn't say for certain what is causing his symptoms, but it sounds like from your description that he needs to see a vet. A vet can diagnose what is causing these symptoms so he can be treated. If you can, I would take him into a vet today, even if that means going to an ER vet or finding a vet on call to see him.
