My dog is shaking after flea shampoo. Is he having a reaction?

I would monitor Mufasa for now and if he begins to tremble, shake, twitch or have seizures, take him to the veterinarian immediately. You did the right thing by rinsing him off immediately. Poor girl. I suspect she is having a mild reaction to the Hartz flea medication. Unfortunately, this particular flea prevention has been shown to have adverse effects in many cats that cause neurological issues stemming anywhere from muscle twitching to full on seizures. I would recommend rinsing the product off as best you can using Dawn dish detergent, followed by a soothing cat friendly conditioner from your local pet store to rehydrate the skin. And then a vet visit is best to get her fully evaluated to make sure she doesn't require any additional treatment (i..e muscle relaxer) or antihistamines. I hope that your fur baby Lucy is able to make a full and speedy recovery and its best to get her on a higher quality flea prevention (i.e Revolution, Cheristin, Advantage is ok) next time to limit adverse reactions in the future. Yes this could be the cause. This is probably an allergic reaction , these reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the swelling becomes too large or if your dog is lethargic, take her to the vet in order to get an antihistamine injection.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Scout! I haven't heard of limping as a side effect of flea shampoo. Usually the side effects are GI (vomiting, diarrhea, not eating), lethargy, skin irritation or neurologic (seizures, twitching). I think maybe he hurt himself before, during or after the bath and that is the the cause of the limping. The discomfort and lethargy could be from the bath or the painful leg. If he is still uncomfortable, lethargic, limping, not eating through out the day then I would bathe him in Dawn to remove the flea product and take him to the Vet. I recommend the edible flea and tick products (Nexgard, Bravecto or Simparica) to prevent and get rid of flea infestations. I wish Scout the best!

It could be a reaction from the flea and tick shampoo. That can be harsh on the skin and cause reactions. Because Bentley's skin is really hot and he's red all over, I would have him seen by a vet right away. I think he should be evaluated by a vet so he can be treated. Please take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. Hello. Revolution has been one of the safest flea & heartworm preventative you can buy, & about the only thing you can purchase for tiny babies. If the tremors were very brief & Bear continues to act well, I would not be concerned. It is difficult to say if the Revolution actually caused any tremors, but if he is acting well, there should be no need to worry further.
