Small dog got large dog flea meds, skin burning. What can I do?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Puppy! I recommend taking her to the Vet. It sounds like she has a bad skin infection from reacting to the medications. The fur should be shaved away, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories should be given. There are great flea and tick medications out there now that are oral: Nexgard, Simparica and Bravecto. The topical flea medications do not work nearly as well. And for puppy this will hopefully avoid reactions like this in the future. I hope this helps and I wish Puppy a speedy recovery!

If he is very uncomfortable, (but not displaying any other signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, muscle tremors) I would recommend bathing him with Dawn dish soap. This will remove the product from his skin and should provide him with some relief. Then he should follow up with his veterinarian tomorrow. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Boo! If Boo has scratched himself raw he likely has a skin infection and needs oral antibiotics and steroids. The Epsom salts may burn his skin and likely will not fully help him. Be sure you are using a good flea preventative. I recommend any of the oral preventatives: Nexgard, Simparica or Bravecto. They work fast, are easy to give and allow bathing if necessary. I do not recommend the topical products like Frontline, Revolution or Advantixx. I have seen a lot of resistance. If the fleas are now gone and all that is left is Boo's skin reactions he will heal much quicker and painlessly if you take him to the Vet for medications. I have attached a link to a shampoo than may help his skin. Leave the shampoo lather on for 10 mins before rinsing. Use dawn dish soap to wash Kuni as it will strip the medication out better. Keep a watch on her- some dogs only have a mild reaction and washing is fine. If she develops a sore where it was applied, has trembling or seizure like activity she needs to be seen. And you may want to contact her vet anyway for a different flea control option.

Hello. Harley is having a significant allergic reaction, possibly from the shampoo, possibly from something else. You may have inadvertently left some shampoo on his skin & coat, so I would rebathe him in lukewarm water & no soap. Make sure you rinse multiple times to make sure all shampoo is removed. If he is not uncomfortable, you can just watch him as it may take a day or two for the bumps to subside. If he is very itchy or uncomfortable & chewing at his skin, please see your veterinarian. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. This still may be a skin allergy but Benadryl sometimes does not work. I would recommend using a shampoo such as Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly until resolve. I would also recommend using products such as welactin omega 3 fish oil, essential 6 spot on by dermoscent and malacetic conditioning spray. I hope this helps!
