Why is my dog sitting with butt in air and seems uncomfortable?

If your dog is lying in the "prayer position" - front end down and rear end up - while acting uncomfortable, it's usually a sign of abdominal pain. It sounds like your pup isn't feeling well for some reason. You can try offering her a bland diet of plain boiled chicken and rice for today to help settle her stomach. If this doesn't help, or if she develops any other symptoms such as vomiting, not wanting to eat, or acting lethargic, then I would recommend having her examined by a vet as these can be signs of a serious GI problem such as pancreatitis.

The most common reason for random crying out in pain and trouble sitting is neck or back pain. The dog's also stop jumping up and have trouble doing steps. The most common cause is a muscle strain or sprain or a mineralized disk. I treat neck and back pain with muscle relaxants, pain medications and anti-inflammatories. I recommend having Honey seen by a Vet. They can help figure out where she is painful and prescribe the correct medications. Please do not start human medications as they can interfere with the medications your Vet will want to prescribe. I hope this helps and I wish Honey a speedy recovery!

For instance, conditions such as pancreatitis can cause abdominal pain, and thus reduced activity. I recommend having Honey seen by a vet, who can perform bloodwork and x-rays to determine what is causing these signs. She may be standing differently due to abdominal pain or if her butt and tail are in a different position, she may have an anal gland issue. This position can be a sign of a stomach ache or abdominal pain. This can be from many things including constipation, an intestinal blockage, stomach ulcer etc. please monitor if she’s eating, drinking, peeing and pooping normally. If not then please bring her in for an exam. They will check her over to see if they can find the reason for these symptoms, and may recommend abdominal X-rays and lab tests. I am sorry to hear about Kira. Going down on her front legs with her bottom up in the air is most often a sign of abdominal pain and can be a cause for concern. You may be able to tell that her belly is bothering her if by pressing on the abdomen. If she continues this behavior it would be reason to seek veterinary care ASAP. It can be a sign of pancreatitis, a twisting of the stomach or intestines, an intestinal blockage, severe stomach ulcer, and more. If this behavior continues or she begins to vomit or retch, or becomes weak or pale, or begins breathing heavily I would recommend taking her in to the emergency vet.

Hi. It would definitely be helpful to have a little more information about her age and breed and her location. But I will help as much as possible with the information we have. She is showing signs of being uncomfortable. This can be due to pain or inflammation somewhere. A lot of times with the signs that you are describing, I find pets will have an anal gland problem. This is where their anal glands, which are their scent glands, become full and irritated and cause the pets to become uncomfortable if they can't get them to express. The other common finding in these situations is pain somewhere. The only way to get down to the bottom of it is to schedule an examination with your veterinarian. They will then be able to help guide what could be causing this problem for her. I also recommend that they check her anal glands.
