My dog on Sildenafil has an upset stomach. Is it the medication?

If the hypertension is not managed, the hypertension will damage the kidneys further. I hope this helps! Typically, a bland diet (such as boiled white meat chicken and white rice) can be helpful for medication-induced GI upset. If your dog isn't eating, vomiting, having diarrhea or otherwise feeling ill, then I would recommend having him evaluated by his veterinarian, as something more than just a medication reaction may be going on. Hello. There are no reported problems administering these 2 medications together, although there is a warning about administering Sildenafil with a similar medication cimetidine ( Pepcid is famotidine ). So just to be sure, I would separate these 2 medications by at least 30 minutes, ideally would be 1-2 hours. Since famotidine can alter the ph of the gastric mucosa & thus potentially affect the absorption of other medications, I would give the sildenafil first. There was a recent study that looked into the use of Sildenafil and megaesophagus. At a recent conference held by an internal medicine specialist, they are now using Sildenafil in these cases to reduce regurgitation and are finding great improvement and a decrease in the amount of regurgitation. Here is a link to the paper. There were no comments on weight gain when using Sildenafil and no mention of this in the study. I hope this helps! You can show your veterinarian this research paper as well. We have used Sildenafil in several cases of megaesophagus now and they have shown much improvement since starting. Poor Diesel! The Metacam would be the more likely culprit for the upset stomach, as this is a common side effect with NSAIDs - but the omega-3 supplement could certainly be a possibility. I would suggest calling your veterinarian to let them know that Diesel has been having stomach issues on his meds. They may suggest trying him on a different NSAID such as Rimadyl or Galliprant, to see if he tolerates this better.

Although there is no way for us to test Chinese herbs with every drug combination, there should not be any concerns for using any of those Chinese herbs with Sildenafil since none of them tend to affect blood pressure.

It it upsets his stomach you shouldn't give it again, it has the potential to cause a stomach ulcer and it will be much worse if it happens. he needs new meds that won't affect his stomach as much, and you can only get it from the vet.
