Is it safe to give my dog Sildenafil and Pepcid at the same time?

Hello. Sildenafil does not cause any known stomach issues, so no real precautions are needed, but it never hurts to give a medication with a little food ( unless it specifically says to give on an empty stomach ). Sildenafil has no know precautions like this. Kidney failure definitely can cause nausea & vomiting. It is also ok if he punctures the capsule, though he may not like the taste. You can try pill pockets or using canned food to give the pill in if he can tolerate that. I hope this helps!

These medications can certainly be given on the same day. No concerns for drug interactions here whatsoever. Please also continue to monitor for any signs of GI upset however from the medications themselves, which includes vomiting, diarrhea or decreased appetite and notify your vet immediately if seen. Only a small percentage of pets will have an adverse reaction to these medications. Both medications should be gien after a small meal. Piroxocam is an antiinflammatory drug that is in a similar class as carprofen, aspirin, ibuprofen and others. These drugs all have varying potential for adverse effects and stomach irritation and ulcers is one of the bigger concerns. Whenever we prescribe drugs we weigh the risk versus the benefit. In Ribzy's case, Piroxicam is a good drug for treating the suspected TCC. It also has good evidence for safe doses that will prevent the potential side-effects. In her case, the benefit of taking this drug is worth the small risk of the reversible side-effects. The Pepcid may help to prevent the side effects. This can be given at anytime, because it will take a while to actually work. Just make sure it is given as prescribed. The Piroxicam should given with food. I recommend giving it in her food, or just before she starts to eat. I hope that helps and Ribzy gets better soon. Typically we don't like to give two different NSAIDs very close together but that is mostly when a dog has been on one long-term and we want to switch to another. Has only having one dose of previcox a few days is not really concerning. The main reason we worry is the potential for gastric ulceration. If you want to be cautious you could give him some omeprazole for a week but it would be best to contact your vet before adding in any other medications. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
