Why is my dog shivering and dry heaving all night but not throwing up?

Shivering can be a sign of pain, nausea, or a fever. Muscle tremors can look like shivering and can occur with some toxins or neurologic diseases. If the shivering continues I'd recommend having Zoey examined by a veterinarian.

She is probably shivering because her body is trying to adjust after losing so much food and fluid when she vomited. Try to keep her calm and comfortable for now. You may want to see if she needs to get up and walk outside. If her abnormal behavior continues for more than a few hours you should consider taking her to be examined by the vet. I hope this helps. It could be Zoey is in a lot of pain or she could be quite sick. I would keep a very close eye on her for now, and if she is still acting this way in the morning, have her seen by a vet. If she starts vomiting or has diarrhea, take her into a vet immediately.

If she is unvaccinated for distemper, I would potentially consider this as a possibility but in older animals, distemper is not commonly seen. She may be uncomfortable from something (painful) or an infection / systemic disease. Hello, sorry to hear about Ariel. She could be feeling sick either due to allergies, pain, or a high fever if she has some sort of infection. If she is otherwise stable, you may continue to monitor her until the morning and have your veterinarian look at her if she is still shivering. There could be a couple of reasons why Rosie is shivering. Shivering could be caused by pain, fever, anxiety, or nervousness. Given she recently saw the vet and had had no problems, I would suspect nervousness might be the cause. She's new to your home, and that is a stressful adjustment. As long as she is eating and drinking normally, going to the bathroom normally, and otherwise acting normal, I would not be too concerned about it. I hope this helps!

I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian. I am concerned she is shaking after episodes of vomiting. You can take her temperature at home. Normal for a dog is 99-102.5. Unfortunately many things can cause vomiting like indigestion, foreign material, infections, pyometra, toxins and foreign objects. Since she is not feeling well a vet visit will help break down what is going on for proper treatment.
