My 2-month-old puppy is shivering a lot. What could be the cause?

It is not uncommon for very small animals to feel a little chilly after drinking a lot of water, however, if Kylie continues to shiver for more than a half hour, or if this happens again I would consider checking in with your veterinarian. Congrats on the puppies! Rosie could be shaking and panting due to the puppies nursing. When puppies nurse, it releases oxytocin which causes uterine contractions, which in turn leads to panting and shaking. Without seeing her in person, I can't say this for certain, but it could be normal. What isn't normal is that she doesn't want food or water. Keep giving her dry food in water since she will take it. What can be helpful for your veterinarian, since you don't know much about Chance's history, would be to log when these episodes occur, how long they last, and even get a video recording of a few of them. If only Jessie could talk! This type of behavior could be related to something like anxiety or to pain/discomfort. I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian who will check for evidence of pain on the physical exam. They may also check a urine sample or the anal glands as well. It's very hard to say what could be going on with her from that information. Shivering can be caused by low body temperature, pain (for example neck pain), it can actually be tremors, and somewhere's we don't figure out what's going on at all. Because it's been going on all night, I would recommend taking her to the vet this morning. Hope you get to the bottom of things today and Zoey is feeling better soon!

Hello, sorry to hear about your pup. There are several causes for increased drinking and decreased appetite. However, it may be that he is just a bit cold. Some other causes could include anxiety. Finally underlying metabolic diseases such as kidney disease, cushings, hypothyroidism, or other forms of GI disease may cause this as well.
