My dog is shaking, whining, and won't move; is his back leg hurt?

Shaking is usually a sign of pain, according to the symptoms I can't be sure where the pain is coming from, possibly from his hips but it could be from somewhere else. I strongly recommend that you take him to the vet ASAP in order to get it checked and treated.

Hi! Thanks for entrusting us with Bentley's care today! Lameness and/or possible leg pain and shaking can be a sign of a few things that range from a muscle sprain to even a fracture. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian so that this can be further assessed which will likely include radiographs. Treatment will be dependent on findings though at the very least pain control medications can be prescribed. Good luck! Hoping for a speedy recovery!

I am sorry to hear that Junior isn’t feeling well. Those symptoms are pretty vague and can be associated with many different problems. I would be suspicious about neck and back pain, but nausea and abdominal pain could be possible as well. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. It's possible she has injured her back. many times there will not be any signs on a physical exam until the injury happens. Certainly an injury to the joints of the leg are also possible. I recommend to try to get her examined as soon as you can. A back injury can become chronic and serious in nature (just like humans). Be up front with the doctor about your cost concerns. Until you have her examined, she needs exercise restriction so NO running, jumping, going for walks, stairs or getting on the furniture. Crate her when you are not watching her and she should be on a leash anytime she goes outside. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Jack! Jack is obviously painful! Beagles commonly get slipped disks in their backs and suffer from back and neck pain. The symptoms you are describing occur with back or neck pain. It is best to have Jack seen by a Vet. I treat back pain with strict rest, anti-inflammatories, muscle relaxants and pain medications. I do not recommend starting human medications as they might interfere with your vet's choice of medications. I hope this helps and I wish Jack the best!

Poor baby. It sounds like he may have injured something. It is common for them to injure their back or neck and act this way. I would have your vet look st him today. Your vet will be able to localize the pain and give him the appropriate pain meds to help him feel better. If it is his lower back, you vet may also prescribe him a stool softener so it is easier for him to have a bowel movement. Your vet will also be able to do X-rays if needed. I do not recommend to give any human pain meds as most of these are toxic to dogs. I hope this helps and he starts to feel better soon!

If Scrapoy is having neurologic signs (leg weakness, knuckling, not moving the leg(s), walking drunk) I would worry that he is suffering from a slipped disk in his neck or back. The shaking is common when dogs are in pain and disk can be very painful. I would recommend taking Scrapoy to the Vet today for an exam. I hope this helps and I wish you the very best!
