Why is my Shih Tzu shaking, hiding, lethargic, and not eating?

If the kyphosis is new, I would be concerned the symptoms are related. since Nutmeg is not responding to treatment, I recommend to preform further diagnostics. Based upon your description, I would be concerned Nutmeg has abdominal pain, spinal pain or perhaps pressure on her internal organs. Top differentials include: pancreatitis hepatitis (many potential causes) foreign object in gastrointestinal tract intervertebral disc disease or injury internal abscess fluid in abdomen tumor/cancer in abdomen Some potential diagnostics including imaging (ultrasound would be preferred over x-rays), bloodwork and a blood test specifically for the pancreatic enzymes like a CPL. Poor Zeus! The shaking can be a sign of pain, which would cause him to not eat or drink. He could be in pain from an injury, such as a torn ligament or muscle, or he could be in pain from an illness or infection. If he had a foreign body stuck in his GI tract, for example, that would be painful and cause him to not want to eat or drink. I think it would be a good idea to take him into your vet today for an exam given how quickly his symptoms appeared. Your vet can determine what has caused him to have these symptoms, and how best to treat it.

Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of medical problem - shaking, acting lethargic, and not eating are generally signs of pain or discomfort, but beyond that he would need an exam and some diagnostic testing to determine what's wrong. Hi, she is so beautiful and does not look her age at all. I wonder if she is feeling a bit anxious as she seems to settle when wrapped up. The increased thirst and urination needs investigating through a blood sample. Try to tempt her to eat and to keep her comfortable. Hope this helps and that she feels better soon.

Shaking is usually a sign of pain, so it could be due to pain in his back leg or possibly due to a slipped disk. you will need to take Junior to the vet as he will surely need some pain killers at the very least.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Lulu. I recommend that she sees a veterinarian today. It does not sound like she is not feeling well. Small breed dogs are prone to neck and/or back pain which can be excruciatingly painful. It causes dogs to shake, pant, and not want to move. Most will hesitate to jump on furniture or be reluctant to do stairs. If this is the case, x-rays can be taken of the spine. Based on these results, medications are prescribed. In the meantime, keep her quiet and carry her if possible. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be toxic to dogs. I hope this information helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Bobo! He is so cute in his bed! It sounds like Bobo is experiencing periodic stomach pains. The noises you hear is likely gas moving through his intestines. Gas can be painful. When dogs are in pain they shake, don't want to move and whimper. Possible causes are: viral or bacterial infection, reaction to a new food/treat/table food, pancreatitis, inflammatory bowel disease, kidney or liver problems, food allergy or intolerance or cancer. Since Bobo is older I do recommend having him seen Monday when your Vet opens for blood work and belly X-rays. In the mean time I would start a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Feed 1 cup per 20 lbs per day as small frequent meals. I wish you and Bobo the best!
