Why is my dog shaking, tail tucked, and out of it after peeing?

It is common for small breed dogs to have disc disease in the neck or back which is excruciatingly painful. His veterinarian will examine and determine if either of these scenarios are possible for him or if he has another problem. In the meantime, keep him quiet and carry him if necessary. It sounds like Ryder may be painful in his joints given that he is walking slowly and lying down frequently. Painful joints can be due to a number of things including immune-mediated disease (IMPA) and some tick-borne diseases, especially if you have recently removed ticks from him. Your veterinarian will be able to determine what is causing Ryder's pain and discomfort and provide appropriate treatment. This can happen from insect bite, accidentally tearing a toenail, or a number of other minor, but painful things. It could also be related to a back injury, clot, bladder stone, or other more serious medical conditions- though he’s pretty young for those things. He could also have been scared for some unknown reason (thunder, cat outside, motorcycle reviving up, etc), If you have the ability to check on him at lunch (or have someone else check on him at lunch) that would be ideal, though very likely he will be completely normal by then. Urinating in an episode like you are describing is usually caused either by a seizure, which often occurs at night, or by a 'syncopal' or fainting episode from heart disease. There are other causes as well however these would be the two that I would be most concerned about. With it being at night, a seizure is more likely, as fainting from heart disease usually occurs when they get excited and are more active. The reason they pee themselves in these episodes is because they lose consciousness. I would recommend having Riley seen by your vet. They will listen to his heart as well as maybe check some bloodwork and maybe check his urine. Best of luck with Riley.

Hello, I am glad Timmy seems to be better. His symptoms are concerning for a seizure, toxin exposure, allergic reaction, low blood sugar, liver disease and intestinal disease. Although Timmy seems to have made some Improvement, I would advise you to have him examined by a veterinarian as soon as possible and discuss bloodwork, fecal exam and x-rays if warranted. Also, write down what happened today so that you can keep a log of events in case Timmy experiences another episode.

It sounds like Ingmar could have a serious health issue related to heart disease, seizures, or toxin exposure. I strongly recommend you have him examined by a veterinarian right away as some of these issues can be life threatening. Your veterinarian can assess Ingmar for a heart murmur and take X-rays to determine if emergency heart medication is needed. If seizures are suspected, then medication may be needed to prevent them in the future. Blood work should also be done to ensure no organ issues are present.
