My dog collapsed, is lethargic, and peed himself. What's happening?

Pet's info: Dog | Bichon Frise | Male | neutered | 9 years and 4 months old | 14.52 lbs

My Bichon Friśe fainted this morning. He seemed to not be able to move his body immediately most especially his legs. For the very first time, he wet himself in bed which he doesn’t do at all. He tried getting up to drink H2O after 30 mins and in a span of 3 hrs he drank again. My concern is that he still looks lethargic. I tried giving him his favourite treats but he doesn’t seem to respond with the food. I saw this pea size lump on his skin but it seems more of like a fat cyst but bruised. Tnx

It sounds like Ingmar could have a serious health issue related to heart disease, seizures, or toxin exposure. I strongly recommend you have him examined by a veterinarian right away as some of these issues can be life threatening.

Your veterinarian can assess Ingmar for a heart murmur and take X-rays to determine if emergency heart medication is needed. If seizures are suspected, then medication may be needed to prevent them in the future. Blood work should also be done to ensure no organ issues are present.

Why does my dog collapse or flop over when excited or peeing?

I am sorry to hear that Max isn’t doing well. Collapsing events are commonly associated with heart disease, but other problems such as anemia or cancers could cause similar signs. I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. X-rays and/ or Blood work may be recommended to help define the diagnosis. My Pomeranian collapsed after grooming. Why is he so sick now?

He could have a seizure from stress or collapsed from lack of oxygen from stress or gotten some water in his lungs. If he is not up and walking and not eating or drinking, he should be seen by your vet for IV fluids for supportive care and have testing done to see what is the problem. IF he aspirated, it will show up on x rays along with his heart to see if there is problem

My dog collapses and pees when I let him out. Is it a seizure?

It sounds suspicious for a seizure . Kayla could have a seizure for a few reasons. The most common is epilepsy but toxins, liver disease or brain tumors can also cause seizures. I would recommend to take him into the vet asap for a neurologic exam and bloodwork. This will help to narrow down what caused this. Keep him quiet until his visit and encourage him to drink water. My dog collapses, won't eat, shivers, and licks. What's wrong?

It sounds like your dog needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. It is very concerning that he can't stand on his own and collapses. Your vet can run blood work and take an x-ray, if needed, to diagnose the problem and then determine the best way to treat. He could have a problem with his spine, heart disease, metabolic, endocrine problem, etc. Please call your vet and have him seen as soon as possible.

My dog collapsed, limp, panting, then staggered. What happened?

That sounds scary! Zeus needs to be examined by his veterinarian today if possible. It sounds like he may have had a seizure or a syncopal episode. Pets can have seizures for many reasons including liver disease, electrolyte imbalance, infections, inner ear problems, cancer or epilepsy. Syncopal episodes are generally related to the heart. He will need a physical exam and bloodwork to begin to narrow down and appropriately address the cause. Seizures are serious and are best addressed early. Why is my dog collapsing, breathing rapidly, and going limp?

Hello. I am so sorry about poor Monty. He does need to see a veterinarian as soon as possible to rule out the various causes of his symptoms. These could be seizures, but it can also be a condition called syncope that would indicate that there may be a pretty serious heart problem going on. Other than protecting him the best you can when he collapses, there really is not much you can do at home. I do hope you can have him seen soon.
