My dog is shaking and panting a lot, but seems normal. What's wrong?

My dog is shaking a lot and panting a lot. She's a little overweight and has been acting normal all day

I'm sorry to hear that Lola is not acting herself. Shaking and panting could be signs of several different things such as pain, anxiety or early signs of illness. If she's acting normal otherwise, I would watch her closely. If she goes back to her normal self tomorrow, there is probably nothing to worry about. If she continues this tomorrow, especially if other signs of illness develop, I would take her to a veterinarian. Please do not give her any over the counter human medication such as aspirin, ibuprofen or Tylenol as these can have serious side effects in animals. If you feel that she is in pain, it would be best to take her to a veterinarian tonight.

I am sorry to hear that your pet is feeling sick! Unfortunately, the signs she is showing are very nonspecific. This could possibly be due to pain, nausea, difficulty breathing, seizure-like episodes, metabolic problems, or anxiety. The best things to do would be to have her examined by a veterinarian. It would alose be helpful if you were to record an episode so the veterinarian that is examining her could review that in conjunction with their examination. In addition, keep a journal of the episodes so to see how often they are occurring and if there is a pattern to them.

These are very unspecific signs, however they would be typical of pain. So, if Lola has lately been stiffer than normal or finds it hard to get up, or does not want to climb stairs or jump up on a couch, there is reason to believe that Lola may be in pain. I suggest you schedule an appointment with your veterinarian for an exam.

These can be symptoms of many serious medical issues, anxiety, fear, pain, neurologic disease, infection, etc. I would recommend that you have him checked out by a vet to see what could be going on. After a thorough physical exam and discussion of his recent history, the vet may recommend diagnostics, such as blood work, x-rays, ultrasound, etc. to diagnose the cause.

This is a quite generic but concerning sign. Differentials are many, from gastrointestinal diseases (infection/inflammations often dietary related) to any disease that can spread systemically (causing lethargy for example) like infection, and anything that can cause pain/discomfort. A check up is needed if these vague signs last for more than 24hours. These symptoms could be caused by a range of issues, including musculoskeletal pain, heart or lung disease, abdominal pain, heat stress or heat stroke, anxiety, impending seizures, etc. I would recommend that you keep a close eye on Bailey for the next 12-24 hours. If he develops additional symptoms, he should be checked out by a vet immediately. If he is just not back to normal within 24 hours, he should also see a vet.

I am sorry ot hear about Quica. Shivering and panting can be a sign of extreme anxiety, pain, respiratory distress, ingestion of a toxin, and more. If she is continuing this behavior and there is nothing going on that could be causing anxiety (such as fireworks or loud noises), I would recommend bringing her into the vet for an examination.

Why is my dog shaking, panting excessively, and whining in pain?

It sounds like she should be examined by a vet to determine the source of her pain. She could have neck or back pain, arthritis, abdominal pain, etc. and your vet should be able to localize the pain and decide the best way to treat. She may need an anti-inflammatory and your vet can prescribe. Do not use any human OTC pain relievers as they can be toxic to dogs.
