My dog is shaking, low energy, and scared. What to do until the vet?

Your poor pup sounds ill! Without seeing him in person, I can't say what is causing his symptoms, but it could be due to a systemic infection or injury to name a few things. The best thing to do for him is to take him into a vet as soon as possible. I hope this helps!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Benji. I am glad that he will see his veterinarian soon. He could be nauseous from the drooling you have described. Shaking and panting can also indicate pain. Small breed dogs are prone to neck and/or back pain. This is very common and can make a dog hesitant to walk, jump.or go up stairs. Prior to your appointment, keep him very quiet and carry him if he needs to move. Limiting his movements can help to ease any pain he may be experiencing. Offer water so that he does not become dehydrated. He may not want to eat though if he is nauseous. Do not give any over-the-counter pain medications as these can be be toxic to dogs. You can warm towels in the dryer to wrap him in as most dogs like to be warm. I hope this information helps!

Poor Jackson! He could be shaking from pain, which would also cause him to be lethargic. At his age, it could be that he is suffering from arthritis. I would rest him tonight, and then have Jackson seen by a vet first thing tomorrow if he's still shaking and acting lethargic. The vet can diagnose what is causing his symptoms, and can treat him for them.

Poor Lily. The answer to your question depends on how she is doing otherwise. As long as she is eating, drinking, going to the bathroom, and doesn't seem overly distressed, you can take her sometime in the next few days. If she's not eating, not drinking, and/or seems upset or in pain, take her into an ER vet. I hope this helps.

Poor Tigs! It definitely sounds like something is wrong. Unfortunately, these are very vague symptoms that could be caused by almost any kind of medical problem - shaking, acting lethargic, and not eating are generally signs of pain or discomfort, but beyond that he would need an exam and some diagnostic testing to determine what's wrong. I would recommend taking him to the vet today to be seen. He/she can do blood work, x-rays, or other testing if needed to help diagnose the problem.

Hello. I am very suspicious that there may be something going on with Lucky. A young Spitz should be full of energy & bouncing off the walls. I really believe that your vet needs to look a little more to see what might be going on. Was any blood work or a urinalysis performed at the last visit? Was any other testing offered such as for tick disease or any other diseases that might be common to your area? Lethargy & shivering are a true indication that Lucky does not feel well. You should have Lucky examined by a vet. Any abnormal behavior should be taken seriously. Since I can't see what he is doing it is hard to comment on why he is doing this behavior. It could be a type of seizure activity. It is best for him to be checked out by your vet in person.
